Hanging a Jet Dust Filter on it’s Side?

Any reason that I shouldn’t hang a Jet dust filter on its side? My garage has a 7’ ceiling, so hanging it normally is a problem for clearance. I’ve got a spot where it would get good airflow but be out of the way, but I’d have to hang it on it’s side. Would it kill the system, or would it be fine?

A simple test would be to put it on its side on the bench, plug it in and leave it on for an hour.
Do the same on the bottom side and see if there is any difference in the sound it makes of noise.
Alternatively, Have you tried calling Jet’s customer service and asking them?
Barring Jet customer service possibly or not being shut down at the moment, they’re probably used to getting questions about tool set up.

Lol... that was a nice find!

OP I never even thought about vertical... I am going to hang two in my shop off of some steel supports I built.

By going vertical it would keep them closer to the wall and might keep them from turning as much like they did in my last shop. Nice idea!

That was funny

I knew you could mount them on their side because I have one and looked into it. I ended up bolting mine to the ceiling. It seems these are a very popular piece of equipment

Actually, I had been planning to do the same with mine.

I've read that mounting it to the wall can be better for filtration than ceiling-mounting it, which makes sense if you visualize the direction air would move around the room.

Just a box +fan+ filter, nothing complicated.

Mine had issues hanging close to my shop lights, remote did not function with lights on.

These things make a big impact to the air quality in the shop? Been working with wood for ages, though I usually just open the garage door when I'm doing so. Always hook a shop vac up to whatever large tool I'm using (table saw, jointer, planer, etc.)

Yes, very noticable. Its the small particles that its grabbing mostly.

When its most notable, painting. If you run one of these with fresh paint out you will see a significant reduction in your paint texture.

Great for those smaller shop/garage guys where the "paint booth" is also the woodshop.
