My pole barn has 6"x6" columns every 8 feet. I plan on finishing the walls with OSB and painting them.

Is OSB strong enough to hold up cabinets? I mean heavy cabinets, they are from a hospital and they measure 48" wide an 42" tall with 2 shelves. They must be 100#'s.

Thanks

Ive done exactly what you are planning and yes 7/16" OSB is strong enough to hold cabinets. I have two houses worth of cabinets hanging in mine

I would add blocking or some kind of studs behind for extra support. I've seen things mounted to osb and get ripped out of it.

I am doing the same right now. Well I am putting usb up for a finished look/insulation/and back for benches. I have the intentions of hanging cabinets, just have not bought any yet. I am putting 3 "studs" in between the posts. They are just 2x6's that are 5 and half inches wide. They work perfect. Then I am using joist hangers to put them in. I can get pictures if you want me to.

You're going to have some sort of vertical or horizontal framework behind the OSB correct? Assuming the cabinets would actually be affixed to said studs, your wall covering thickness is almost irrelevant?

I would be very skeptical of hanging 100 lb. cabinets on OSB without any stud support, as you are essentially asking 1/2 inch of glue and wood chip to hold the weight.

On my OSB wall, I had studded out between the posts, insulated, hung the OSB and then used French cleats made from 2x4's mounted with three-inch screws directly into the studs to hang my cabinets.
