I have a 32x32 pole barn with 10ft ceilings. I just got all the walls and ceiling insulated and plywooded.

last winter i picked up a 150k btu trane hanging furnace. it was an impulse buy and hadnt done much research yet. now that ive found this site and starting to learn more im wondering if i made a bad decision.

I plan on working in the barn mostly in the evenings after work. located in southeastern michigan. I want it to heat quickly to a comfortable working temp. sweatshirt weather.

so I really like the idea of the radiant heaters because im always working on cars and metal and like the idea of everything being warm. But with my cieling only being 10ft can I use one of these
Mr. Heater F272800 Natural Gas Building Heater 40000 BTU and will it be enough to heat my barn in a sufficient amount of time.

does anyone else have experience with these mounted heaters and will my 10ft ceiling be tall enough. or should i go with the mr. heater 75k btu hanging furnace.

thanks!!

I'm still in the decision making process myself but it seems that if you want to keep your temperature low normally but heat things up fast you already have the unit that works for that purpose.

I have a 30x40 with 13'6" ceiling but still will likely stay with a furnace because 50 degrees is what I had rather keep the temperature I would be happy with but would likely to warm things up quickly when needed. My biggest draw for radiant heat is for finishing wood projects/painting would mean less dust blowing.

yeah i think ill keep the current furnace for now. its just big and heavy. i made a shelf for it to sit on becuase it has the fan on back. but aftewards i found the minimal clearances. and lets just say im 5" closer on top and bottom of what they want. So now im back to square 1 and have to build a trapeze to hang the giant thing.

Im wondering if i could put a sheet of alluminium above and below the heater to keep it from the "combustable" material. which is the plywood shelf its sitting on and the ceiling.

anyone that has installed a hanging furnace in there barn can you tell me how hot the top and bottom of the unit gets.

If you're going to do thatyou want an airspace between the sheet alum and your walls cielings, say an 1" .
