Morning all

When hanging a big maxx with unistrut and threaded rod, are you having it right from the unistrut or running it up through the ceiling to the joists? Tia

whether you have spring nuts or not, I always like to "double nut" something heavy, how much does this weigh?

Thats not bad, if you have spring nuts (to go inside the unistrut) use a square unistrut washer and a jam nut under it, crank er down and you will be fine. Are you using 1 5/8" strut?

How big of a space are you heating? is this heater electric or gas?

Unit heaters are typically installed with the unistrut under the unit and the all thread installed vertically and attached to the joist above the ceiling.

Only if the heater does not have a hanging flange on the top.

The hanging flange can be a pain in the ***, especially if the framing isn't where you need it to be; and the uni-strut can help prevent some vibration from transferring into any living space above the garage.

Unistrut will work great.

Just a couple pieces that grab 3-4 studs from the bottom (if your ceiling is finished) if not I'd go on top of the joists, then spring nuts are great for adjustability.

I usually use the stuff with holes, and 7/8 will be fine, unless you want 1 5/8.

I hung mine directly from the unistrut, using spring nuts inside the strut, and below the strut I added square "washers" with nuts below those, so the rods are locked in place in the strut.

The strut is hung from the joists by threaded rods that go up through the sheetrock, and through strut strips that sit atop the joists, thereby clamping the joists between the struts.
You can see the top side struts in this pic, before the insulation went in:
