Hanging out in the garage

As soon as the kids go to bed I am usually out in the garage. I haven't run elec through the whole building yet but I have one 4-plug receptacle by the entry door running two shop lights and extension cords, one of which goes to the "man cave" where I have a television with cable, 2 couches, and chair for sports. Pool table as well but I don't use it much unless people are over. Next I need a fridge to keep the beer cold so I don't have to keep robbing the icebox from the house for my cooler :) Usually always a project to tinker on out there anyway...I hate sitting in the house!

I hang out in mine as much as I do the house, of course I have a home office so working at home I get tired of being in the house and want out in the evenings/weekends. Small boom box, TV, small apartment size fridge, all big enough to get the job done I guess. Now that I have heat out there it will be even better.
Have a get together once a month for some of my Jeep friends, this past weekend some drove 3 hours plus to come and hang out . Always have the grill fired up right outside the door, cold beer/sodas whatever you want to drink in the fridge just a place to run away to. Being a 3 car wish I had more room but enough to work on one and get around it with room for chairs / table etc
But mines a working garage so it gets dusty and dirty as well in there.

No TV - but a stereo, some suds, and a couple of stools make it comfy enough to just hang out. Heat and AC mean that friends show up in extreme temps. When I get to a stopping point on a project, I'll crack a beer, do a little cleaning, and make a list of stuff that I need.

Same here, except no A/C. I'm not planning on a TV in the new shop, either...I'm not much of a TV guy.

I do it whenever I can. The only "entertainment" I have in the shop is my ipod hooked to an old car radio. No TV or internet, as I go there to get away from that stuff. I do have a small fridge and will enjoy a soda or beer, and occasionally I will smoke a good cigar as well. Many times I will pull my truck in and sit on the tailgate and just stare out at the trees (weather permitting). When I'm not actually working on a project I will sweep the floor or just tidy things up as I think about future projects or other things that need thinking about.

Being a retired single Guy, I spend about 16 hours a day in My shop. Big screen, stereo, all My tools and old signs and gas pumps, etc. A cooler, because I drink My beer COLD. I have all My bikes, and even My 22 foot sailboat in there. I actually do a lot of work in there, but at 5, I shut down and prop My feet up, pop a beer and watch MASH, or whatever. My house is 800 square feet, My shop 1200, heated and air conditioned. No internet in the shop!

I go in mine to have a beer, listen to music and work. On cold, rainy days, I kick on my parabolic electric heater, have a glass of Jack Daniel's and a good cigar. I usually pull out my reloading equipment when it rain. For some reason, rainy days and reloading ammo go good together.

My stepdaughter likes to come out and help me when I'm out there or she justs brings a book and hangs out with me while I work (and hog my heater when its cold). The wife will come out and keep me company sometimes if it's not too cold.

Don't want a TV in mine, since I don't watch TV much at all. When my parents come to visit, my mom & wife hang out inside while my pops & I have a drink and cigar out in my garage and we just shoot the ****.

That's why I built my "projects only" garage. Hanging out with wife or friends, but admittedly best enjoyed by myself. Always music, sometimes tv, but tv usually limited to football or racing. It's as much a sanctuary as a workshop.

 I think this is true for many of us here.

I plan on having a TV but since I'm the one in control I will watch it when I want to (which probably won't be much, honestly). Just because something is there doesn't mean you have to interact with it  I carry my mobile phone with me everywhere but I don't always answer it (if it's important they'll leave a message).

I'm a compooter geek so I do plan on an internet connection. It's nice to be able to surf without "whatcha doin'?" from every other person who lives here. Plus there's some good 'how-to's out there in internet-land and having it on-screen is nicer compared to a print out or going by memory...which mine is pretty crappy.

I know people that make their drinking/football room the garage. I don't hang out too much in mine unless I have something to do out there. If I had a better chair I many out in the garage more in the cooler months.

There is no better feeling than watching NASCAR, Football, Baseball, Volleyball, in the garage with friends. The garage just completes it. I have a pub table, steel tip dart board, soft air target, and even Corn-Hole to keep entertained if I do not have a project to work on. Kind of feel stupid when I run into the air conditioned house to use the can and see the race or game on inside on the LCD... still would rather be in the garage.:thumbup:

I live on a circle, any given weekend I can walk around and all but one of 4 neighbors are hanging in the garage with a tv on and enjoying a beverage of choice working on a project or just hanging out

Love hanging out in the garage. Great having friends over to watch games, work on something or just relax.

By the way, that is one awesome place you have there Jim.

Good game tonight, Leafs are kicking ***.

OK so may be I'm a freak but nothing more than a radio in my garage, NO TV! The TV kills motivation. Tools, fridge, music, and not much more. If I'm getting anything done I have to be dedicated. :)

Got to many projects going to hang out. Shop is used for working until maybe I can get the backlog down but don't see that in the very near future. Only got a set of good tunes and bring the laptop out to verify drawings. I only get 2 weeks at home every 2 months so that is why no spare time for just hanging out. Project time and family time is usually scheduled down to next flight out.

I'm out here every night. GJ, the news, wrenching. Sometimes I fire up a small amp and play along with CDs so as to not disturb anyone in the house. Sometimes I sit by the light of the Coke machine and veg out. I got heat, tunes, computer, epoxy floor and a 32" flat screen TV out here so I can be very busy working on cars or very lazy doing nothing!

When I saw this thread I thought cool, other garage dwellers. With tunes, tv and police scanner in there I always have something to keep the background busy. The motorcycle lift also can work as a quick nap spot. There's always something to do and I feel better that I got something done rather than just getting in a bit of time infront of the tv.

I hang in the garage quite often.
Fire up the wood stove, grab a beer from the garage fridge,
turn on the satellite radio, maybe bring the wireless laptop with me
and maybe even smoke a good cigar.

Radio for background and TV for the car shows or football. Just need to put a drop in for research on the net. Makes hanging out in the garage / shop relaxing.

I do not hang out in the garage, I have a stereo and nothing else, I have a huge TV in the living room why would I want one in the garage?

I am to the point now that I won't even open the garage door when I am working out there, as it seems to be an open invitation for all the neighbors I do not know/like to swing by and "chat" while I am elbow deep in a project.

Nothing like using torches or welding when someone wants to come and stand over your shoulder.....

Hell yes I hang out there! A few of my friends are garage addicts too, so we usually sit and choot the chit in whoever's garage we happen to land in for the evening. I have a frumpy couch and a few wooden stools around, but my seating item of choice is usually a sawhorse. Not sure why, but they sit pretty good to me.

No TV in mine. I generate a small mountain of sawdust on occasion and electronics don't seem to like it. I've killed a CD player a year so far. On top of that, I don't watch much TV. I do have a beer/pizza fridge and a small library out there (reference materials, mostly.) Love to unwind out there though, especially after a night of hard work on a project. Nothing like smoking a pipe/cigar with a glass of 100 proof to cap off a night!

Sitting in the mess of a garage now. Just got my furnace working so I can continue my buddy's bobber bike, and my 1950 international.
I have music all the time in here. A few lawn chairs for the friends. This place always ends up being the hang out place when people come over. All my friends are always interested in whatever I'm working on at the time so we go out to chat, then the beer opens up, then it's an all nighter.
Garages can be like Vegas with good friends, you always loose track of what time it is. Best part is, usually they walk out with the same amount of cash in their pockets as they had when they came in:) usually.

I call it the hub, of course I hang out with TV, internet and small frig. I wish i had room for a wood stove. I got this from my dad, god bless him, he had a keg and one of the first stereos in the early 60's, made his own speaker housings.

My single car has desktop PC, a couch, a fridge, kerosene heater and 5.1 surround. We spend a lotta time out there, its also the only smoking area since we don't smoke indoors. I've mostly quit, except for a cigar now and then. Its usually relaxed out there :)

EXACTLY! I live so far out in the boonies that hardly no body ever comes to "hang out "anyway. The doors have digital locks on them and are always locked,so if you dont know the code, you cant get in anyhow, even if I am there! Its not that I'm anti-social,just that we built the place to work in,not stand around and BS.I have a house for that.

For those who say, "No way would I have a TV in the garage", good for you. Some of us are relegated to using the garage as our second living room or social area. With three young kids, it's the perfect spot to have friends over and not bother the sleeping babies....or even more importantly, the momma!

Go ahead, have a cigarette. Spilled beer? No worries, I'll hose it out in the morning. Music until 4 am? Let's rock!

There is never a lack of projects going on in my multi-purpose garage and the TV really never gets in the way. It's nice to have music or the game going on while I work. Plus, it's closer to the grills and smoker so why go back inside when you can enjoy being outside!?!

Two TV's on football, one on golf, one on the race, and one extra depending on the season. Computer for manuals, music, and the Garage Journal. Kegerator for the big smoking days. Fridge for the food and beer. Bar to put it all together. Even put up an outhouse to keep the boys from peeing on the neighbors lawn or bothering the kids. Sink for washing glasses. And still room to park the ol' lady's van, workshop, storage. I LOVE my garage!

I've been working on mine to make it cozy. I like it when the neighbors & friends stop by.
Got all the comforts of home.

It's the one room in the house I can really crank up the jams. I've got my computer out there, and I put on Pandora and listen to electric blues. My wife doesn't share my taste in loud.
Or a football game is great to listen to while working. No TV out there for me.
