Hanging retractable hose reel

Hey all -

I have this:

And have never hung it. I am thinking of hanging it from the laminated beam/joist beam in my garage - anything to be concerned about? Don't want to compromise the beam, but at the same time I think it'll support it well and will be accessible.

I would mount it on the back side (away from garage door)
mount it so the rollers are just below the beam.

very clean look
minimal loss in head room
hose should never rub on beam if mounted just below it
would keep plumbing too it hidden also

Yeah I'd like to do that - I am not sure though - the unit might be too tall to mount with the roll vertical. Think it works horizontally?

Hang it from the ceiling. If it's open above you can build a bridge across two joists and put a spacer block between them and the sheetrock so you don't put the reel through the rock as you tighten the mounting bolts

I've hung mine from the angle iron holding up the garage door track. It's already got the holes so you just need a could of short bolts and nuts.

You can also change the position of the roller guide bracket if you want it to feed out in another direction...

On that HF hose reel: Be sure and periodically check the bolts that hold the plate that secures the rollers. Mine kept coming loose until I replaced them with some ¼"-20 bolts and nyloc nuts.

That is... AWESOME. I never though of that. I'll put it in my attick and just have the hose reach out! I'll put some sort of drain flange or something so it doesn't damage the drywall as it slides up and down.
