Hanging U.S. Flag in Garage

So I am a board member of a veterans memorial.

We bought several sizes of the U.S. flag that were Nylon, not the double sewn new polyester kind. The first two we flew got torn up by the wind so bad that we ended up buying new polyester ones. So we have two brand new, never flown flags that are 12x18 Nylon. We have offered them to local schools, the armory etc. Nobody seems to need them.

Since we cannot return them I offered to buy one to hang in my new man cave/ garage. *YES I Am AWARE OF FLAG ETIQUETTE*.

What I am looking for is a way to hang the flag horizontally not vertically. Any ideas? I have looked at youtube and the only suggestion I found was using alligator clips which seems both unsightly and not practical for a permanent display.

So any help?

Can you have eyelets sewn in wherever you want them?

Needle and thread, they make hooks you can sew onto fabric.
Visit your local Joanne Fabric or similar.

Sew one on backside in each corner and 1 or 2 across top for support.

I couldn't bear to put holes in the flag I flew on my porch so I made a little duct tape flap that I taped on to the flags upper right corner and put the screw through the tape.

I went through one of the hanging eyelets for the upper left side (blue in upper left corner).

Another time I used fender washers to grab the edge of the flag so (again) the screw didn't have to penetrate the flag.

Also standard curtain pins on a cheap rod would work fine too.

We have one hanging vertically in our work shop. An employee that is in the National Guard hung it without asking me, and I figured since he was in the NG I sure wasn't going to question what he was doing. I have no problem with a flag hanging in my shop, but I certainly want to be respectful about it.

The flag has grommets on the 12 foot edge nest to the stars, doesn't it? Can you get grommets and a tool to clamp them and install them on the 18 foot side, again next to the stars, and attach to your support with nylon rope, size up to you.

Good luck with project. I'm not real up on flag etiquette so if my suggestions are not in line with regulations I'm sorry.

Read the etiquette. Always thought it needed to be taken down in rain or bad weather. Maybe that was just to preserve it.

I use spring clips like the one's you get at any office supply house. Screw the clip to the wall, clamp the flag to the clip.

It makes removing the flag super easy and you don't poke holes into the flag.

Buy a handful of neodymium magnets. No holes, and they look shiny and mysterious.
Handle with care, they do bite if you aren't watching.

If I were hanging it in my garage I would make an enclosed case for it since I make a lot of dust.
