BAd thing about that is if he ever sells those sockets it's tough to get what you paid for them in return so you gotta be careful.

Don't matter. The man who owns Snap On covets no other man. Harbor freight will never convey that feeling. :)

What a waste of space!!! :wtf:

You could have saved money by spending twice as much on Magrail TLs and not having to buy sockets that you'll never use just to fill a peg. :bounce:

Love or OCD? Maybe both, but in my case its mostly OCD.

There isn't a single missing socket on any of my Hansen trays either. Not all of my sockets are Snap-on, but they are all made in the USA. (various brands) I have all three drive sizes in metric and standard along with various impact sets, all in 6 point. I have recently started all over again building an entire new set with duplicates of everything in 12 point. I am going to have WAY more sockets than I could ever possibly use but at least I will have a "complete" set that should finally satisfy my OCD. Lol.

That is beautiful. It’s time to upgrade to the 3 row trays now and get some mid lengths. I just switched to Westling machine trays for 3/8” metric so I can have 6-22 mm in 3 row.

This is definitely an addiction. The only thing I’m missing is 12pt deeps but you guys haven’t convinced me I need them yet.

The worst thing about Hansen trays is getting all of the damn sockets to fit on the pegs. There’s always one or two sizes that don’t quite go all the way down the peg.

My OCD is different than most here. I don’t want to mix brands, and since I put my GW sockets on the trays, there will always be gaps.

Of course you need 12 pt deeps. Every brand wouldn't make them if you didn't need them. Do you really want to continue to have to explain 'the only thing your missing'? Save yourself the trouble and embarrassment. ;)

I'll tell you how my OCD works: I'd rather have socket holders that match the sizes of individual Snap-on socket sets and Hansen doesn't do that.

Surprised someone hasn't come up with a set like this but with a series of holes or slots in the bases for adjustable/moveable pegs to let you match the holder to the set you have.

I love Hansen trays for 1/4” and 3/8” Drive sockets. The 1/2” tray however is a nightmare. I only have 26” tool chests and it takes up too much space and I have to leave out specific sizes. I put 1/2” on rails and leave it at that.

OP, that's a killer socket set. I'm jealous.

I have a bit of love/hate with the hansen trays.

I really like the pegs with the sizes written on them. Makes it super fast to grab sockets in a hurry.

On the other hand, they're not the best use of space. They do take up valuable square inches. But I've yet to find anything that works better. Yeah, there are lots of peg based socket trays, but nothing else seems to have the easily seen size markings like the Hansen trays.

I don't have a complete set yet. I am slowly building a full set of sockets. I have a mix of brands, and I buy Snap-On when I can.

I still need 1/4" 12 point, 3/8" impact, 12pt metric 1/2" chrome, and 6 point SAE 1/2" chrome.

I wondered what the deal was about these Hansen socket trays till I bought some for my box at work. . . . now, I know. I have empty spots and it's killing me.

Garage Journal strikes again on my wallet. :wtf:

Yeah....um......what I am careful of is being around asshats who think that they need to get what they paid when it’s time to sell their tools.

If you are worried about resale on your tools you probably shouldn't be buying them. I buy mine to use. They save me a lot of money.

I don't turn wrenches for a living. This is my personal set at home. I enjoy working on stuff and have since I was a teenager, learning from my father who could fix ANYTHING. When I grew up, we didn't take our cars to the mechanic, we didn't call a plumber, or electrician, or HVAC person my Dad did it ALL. I'm in my early 50's and have been that way also. I'm the guy everyone calls when they need a little help with a project and I LIKE that. I would say that my "collecting" tools is a hobby like any other hobby. I understand I would never get retail out of them if I was to sell them. That's why many of them were purchased second hand over the years. I try to pay no more than between 50% to 75% of retail. Most all are like new. I can't stand engravings and such but a little use won't hurt. I plan on using them anyway. The HUNT of collecting is what is fun for me. I know I will NEVER use ALL of them but that's OK.

Purty, but a lot of wasted space. I'm not as bad as some/most here about sockets, but I couldn't fit what I have now into my box on Hansens....

Oh, I agree, there is some wasted space but not that much. I have other drawers with overflow sockets in them. That's why you buy a really BIG box to start with, so you don't run out of room. Yeah, like that works....LOL

3 row Hansens are slowly trickling into the market (unless you buy their Snap-On version). I know toolfetch.com has them in stock...I still have a tab open where I have the two metric 3-row trays in my cart and it comes to $40 shipped but I'm waiting till some other retailers have them such as Amazon.

I decided to look back at some photos of the drawer as it progressed through the years. Kind of like photos of your kids as they grow up...LOL

I added the Hansen trays way back in 2009. I believe I bought them though the Cornwell truck as they were not near as prolific as today.

Two photos from 2009. Note there are a LOT of missing sockets !

Photo from 2011 still lots missing.

Photo from 2013 where I added little plastic vacuum caps to all the pegs that Snap-on didn't offer sockets for AT THAT TIME. I had the pegs covered so it didn't bother me that I was missing sockets that I really couldn't get. Like that helps with OCD....not

Photo from 2016, Found out Snap-on had some of the missing ones available.

Photo from 2018 BEFORE three row trays. I had all the pegs filled but I just had to add the three row trays !

Little story about that.

When I found out Snap-On had the 3 row trays at the end of last year I went to the website but found that they didn't have my colors red/gray.

I called Hansen and actually talked to the owner, Julie. She is a very nice lady and explained that they had an exclusive deal with Snap-On for one year on the 3-row trays but would have them available from Hansen in my colors in June of 2018. She said that because of the Hansen trays and the DEMAND for the sockets that were previously unavailable, Snap-On started producing them.

Then June came and the rest is history !

Getting there...

XiSbb4f.jpg

Need to come up with an excuse to ditch my fractional stuff for good. Never use any of it. Then I can get the 3 row trays to make up for the space.
Just a homegamer these days though, need to come up with creative ways to justify Snappy purchase to the wife.

Like the trays.
Don't like the sizes on the pegs.
Would prefer them blank. and really don't want the pegs taller than the sockets.

Westling was smart to split their 1/2" trays in two. It really does help fitting them in a box.

Most expensive socket I own. Stays pretty too since I can't find a bolt or nut it turns.

I know the answer to this one!!!

The upper rear control arm camber adjustment on the new Pacifica vans. ''Twas the first time ever in 40yrs I've used that size. :lol_hitti

Yeah, I have so far failed in epic fashion with the whole decent sized box department...

Hansen Socket Trays............200.00

Feeling the NEED to fill every single peg with matching Snap-On sockets.....

PRICELESS

I have the lowes knock offs. It has a place for a 1/8th's 1/4 drive. I had one in my hand at sears one day. Only one I have ever saw but it was almost 8 bucks. I thought long and hard and couldn't remember ever needing one.

A washer holds its place now.

Nice drawer mrtoolfool and others. For me its 60/40 Love/OCD. I like the Hansen tray the best and have been completely happy with mine. They don't waste that much space but, are great for organizing and quick id of the size.

I take mine in and out of my main box quite often.
