Happy with OTC Service!

Well... it finally happened. One of the other tech's in my shop has an OTC 6494 (link) clamshell strut compressor.

This thing has been beaten with an impact for years, and never failed. We replace probably 10 upper spring seats or struts a week with it.

Well, today I snapped the bolt that clamps the whole thing down. Right in the middle. I using other people's tools for this very reason: When it breaks, even if it wasn't being abused, well, it gets awkward... So I didn't tell him I was trying to get it taken care of. I just told him it broke the moment it happened, and to let me see what I could do.

Short version?
1. E-mailed OTC at some random address that was all I could find on the website.
2. They CALLED ME within 5 minutes.
3. Guy said... "Oh, wrong contact. Let me transfer you".
4. Didn't wait on hold, lady just picked up. Looked the part number up in the book... Boom. Shipped out this afternoon at no cost to me.

This compressor is 10 years old, and I'll buy mine from them when the time comes, because of service just like this.

I have a few OTC pullers and have never had any problems with them. It is great to learn that there are still companies out there that still believe in good service and standing behind the product that they manufacture and sell. It is always worth the few extra dollars to buy quality whenever it is available. I wonder if I can get them to replace the puller that I forgot under the hood of a car that never returned????

Dang, that's good to hear... i snapped an arm on my OTC slide hammer/puller set trying to get the crank pulley off my Neon engine (rassin' frassin'!) and have been meaning to look into a replacement... guess i'll drop them a line!

It was the puller for the A/C in a 1970's GM car. Not something that I will loose a lot of sleep over, but I hate loosing tools. It was only after the car was gone and I had another job to do with it, that I realized that it was missing. Since it only was used on A/C jobs, then all that I can figure is that I left it on the radiator core support or the engine air cleaner.
