I saw this a month or two ago as well, I asked and they said they were discontinuing the item. I have a couple of the 3/8" ones and REALLY like them (although wish they were only 3/8" and didn't have 1/4" on the other side) so I decided I should pick up a 1/2" as well. Much more comfortable on my hands than my rough cast Crafstman - plus they're adjustable!

Craftsman has an identical one under the Craftsman Evolve name, Menards has one under the Performax name. Just different colored grips but the exact same things.

Sorry guys. I guess yesterday was the last day at that price. Went today to get one for someone else and it rang up at $17.99. I showed them the receipt from yesterday and they priced matched it to $12.97. Said that the price changed over night which did not make any sense.

So was this a limited sale price or are they really discontinuing this ratchet? I really hope they continue to make this item.

It had a yellow clearance tag yesterday and today it was gone. I had them look it up and they had 40 on order. So I think that it is an item they are going to keep.

I tried it today and they said that was on the old style 1/2" extendable ratchet. The new style 72 teeth ratchet is not on sale. For whatever that's worth?

The old style was grey and black handle. They went on clearance for the new red/black longer handle. I got an email, the new one has a super coupon for 13.99

Grind the 1/4 side off. Not a fan of dual drives either.
Ratcchet is too bulky for 1/4 anyway.

Never thought to do that, I might give it a try whenever I get a grinder.

be careful with the heat of a grinder. i should have used a porta band or a hacksaw. flaked the chrome off the top of it with the heat. cheap taiwan tools. i dont care about the chrome anyway, it still turns bolts just fine.

OR - you can just buy ANY other 3/8", 72 tooth ratchet they sell that has socket release button (say the 3/8" composite) and just swap out the drive gear.. it seriously takes about 30 seconds.. thats exactly what i did.

so you spent 13.99 for the composite to change out the dual drive that runs 13.99 ? sounds expensive unless im missing something.

I've had one for about two years now, makes a great substitute for a breaker bar  I keep it and a full metric 1/2" socket set in my car. The 19mm socket along with that ratchet makes a great substitute for the jack handle/lug wrench that came with it. (though I still keep the original jack handle with the jack in the car). I've never had to walk down a dark alley in a sketchy part of town at night, but I figure if I ever have to, it'll make a nice persuasion item too!

HF makes a pretty decent lug nut set for $15 too.

Handy to keep in the car with such a beast.

I have a 6 D-cell maglite for people that need persuading. Plus it doubles as a (crappy) flashlight

I'll look into that set! Don't really need them all, but can't hurt to have on hand. I have my dad's old six cell mag too! He upgraded to a mag charger and I now keep his old light under my third row seats

So the 1/2" drive professional ratchet, with the red and black handle, is excellent! Used one very hard this weekend pulling a 318 out and putting a 'new' one in to a 92 dodge w150. It took cheater pipes, my 250 lb body mass, being kicked to remove fasteners a few times, being thrown across the floor under the truck a few times, and only shows a little wear. Good tool! It and its Pittsburgh 1/2" shallow chrome sockets and deep impact sockets took the brunt of the work. Whenever one of us was using that another was using some 3/8" drive stuff on a little higher quality ratchets, a snap on dual 80 long handle and a proto big dawg, and kobalt socket set, but still. They were all the ones I brought to the garage we were working in as the stuff there was horridly disorganized and I wasn't putting up with digging through all that. Took long enough to do the swap as is.... I want to know where my freaking tools are when I need them!
