I bought a 1/2 filter regulator from Harbor Freight part #68281 and the OUT port only leaks a small amount of air even after I had put on a few rap of Teflon tape I did this a few times with no luck. Just wanted to see if anyone else had an issue with this particular part. Or is there to be a seal at the out port for it to seat against the pipe you maybe screwing in to illiminate the air leak.

Thanks
Frenchy

I've got 2 of those in my garage and IMHO they are both junk. I had to chase down leaks all over every inch of them and still have leaks I can't find but have narrowed down to the regs. Both of them are showing cracks as well in the very bottom of the cups where the drain is installed. IIRC I finally used Rector Seal #2 instead of teflon tape to get the pipe threads to seal.

I have yet to find a replacment clear cup that might fit it so I will probably end up replacing them with higher quality regs when they fail altogether.

For now, I simply keep the ball valves closed unless I need to use the line.

Something I am finding on a lot of import pneumatics is that the threaded ports are not tapped deep enough. This allows the tapered pipe fitting to only engage a couple of turns. I have taken to tapping the ports deeper for better engagement, which seems to seal better. A lot of these are brand name units, so it is not just Harbor Freight. Had a friend call me last week during the install of rear air suspension lift bags on his road tractor. The new Goodyear air bags he had purchased had this same issue. I had him run a tap in a couple turns so his original fittings would work properly and all was well.
