Any tips on getting one of those 44" boxes off a pickup truck? My neighbor will let me borrow his truck to pick one up, but he has back issues and can't help lift.

Here's what I did. Have them load it at the store without the packaging. Take one of the cardboard pieces with you. At home lay the cardboard on the ground below the tailgate. Roll the box out and lift one end to the ground. Stand the box on end and move the truck. Set it down onto the wheels and enjoy your box! I've done it this way 5 times and it's a really easy process.

whats the lowest price on harbor freight 68784? it is at 389.99 now. I have a coupon for 369.99 but was wondering if it ever got down to 349.99 or 359.99. thanks

i haven't seen the $349 coupons in probably a year - even the $359 ones are getting scarce. if you have one for $369, just buy it. they're not going to get any cheaper.

I used a $369+ joined inside track club for an extra 20% off. Made it 299+ 30 for the inside track club membership

Are we really splitting hairs over $10?

Both types of purchasers of this HF tool chest are correct for trying to get the best deal! If you really need it today (now) then buy it for $369. Best value out there period. Great if the $349/359 comes back one day but it might come back at the wrong time: wife says NO, big bills month, no buddies, no pickup etc.

First time poster. Got mine on Saturday. Simply talked to the manager. He let me have it for $359.99. Never hurts to ask.

My dad wanted one so we took a shot with the 25% off coupon and they accepted it, no questions asked. $292.50 plus tax.

What kind of a wood top material is best without being more than $50 with wood stain etc. Something durable and like 2 inches thick?

After I get a wood top made, I was thinking about getting a small 4" vise to mount on the side. Would the 44" or 56" box be best? Maybe the 56" because its deeper for more stability?

7 cubic feet vs 16 on the 44 and 56? Is it really that much more storage, more than double? Is that right?

Thinking about adding a CM PRO 4.5 inch vise to the top of a 1 or 2" thick wood slab on the 44" or 56" HF box.

I call BS until we see the receipt. I've been to many different stores and never had a store be that lax about their coupon policy.

I've been eying that box as well. I would also like to know how the 25% off coupon worked.

First post here. I've been lurking for a while now. Thanks for having me.

Yoiu shoudl know the %20 coupons do not work on the things in fine print on the coupon.

Read the fine print, if it works then thank the cash register clerk for letting it slide.

You better read the older posts on here. A fee of us have gotten it at very good prices.
Well thanks to some tips on here I went to HD Friday and told the cashier I wanted the 44" bottom box.... Then I told her I wanted the membership and add the 20% discount..... "Ok no problem"..... Calls the manager to get code, I almost crapped thinking he would say no but at the end I ended up paying $318 for the bottom 44"!!! I'm soon happy.

Used a coupon on mine. I was told over the phone that they would take a coupon on the box and drove quite a ways to get it because of that. It was a few years ago, but the exclusion on toolboxes was in place at that time. It took a manager override, but they did honor it.

Cleveland. We rock.
Got mine last month. They would not give me the insider's club discount. Still for $369 I couldn't find a decent used one to beat it.

It wasn't too hard to get it down from my stock height 2wd S-10. I'm 6' 220# around 50 in decent but not great shape with mild to medium back issues and found if I removed the packaging first I could swing the end with the fixed wheels out and lower it to the ground, then go to the other end still on the tailgate and lift that down. Still not a wonderful thing but not a real problem.

If the truck was much higher, like a full size PU or large SUV, the first end I set down might have set on the edge of the cabinet and not the wheels. I'm guessing most minivans and smaller SUVs would be fine this way though (you might scratch your bumper). And perhaps I could've left the packaging on for protection, I don't think it weighed THAT much more. My back could've disagreed.

Many thanks to the posters here for their info. I've never had anything like this and I love it. All my portable toolboxes have been emptied. I've been working and scheming on inexpensive organizing and will post soon.

$369 is still a great deal. looks like the $359 coupons are almost phased out. bet they'll start printing $379 coupons w/in the next few months.

they were selling like crazy when i got mine. hf manager said they might get a few in every week & they're sold w/in a day or two.

I got one last month. un-box it while still in the pickup. Take the drawers out before you lower it down; it is much lighter and easy to handle.

Any tips on getting one of those 44" boxes off a pickup truck? My neighbor will let me borrow his truck to pick one up, but he has back issues and can't help lift.

What type of wood and where could I buy it? I would like a 1 or 2 inch wood top for the hf 44.
