I recently got the HF 42 inch toolbox, now I am thinking about adding a wooden top to it so it can be used as a workspace. I understand that the wooden top is not necessary but the idea seems appealing to me :).

Maybe something like: http://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-G9912-Solid-Maple-Workbench/dp/B0000DD0XL/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1322033728&sr=8-4

But in the lower price range. Have any of you made or bought a wooden top for your box?

Thanks for the help and if you can share any pictures that would be great.

I will definitely be checking Ikea and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

www.toolboxtop.com..... or just make one as i did, bought some 3/4 inch cherry from home depot i think, The 4x8 sheet was around 50 dollars. I sanded it, rounded the edges then stained it black, and sealed it with polycrylic(sp). Its been about 4 months and its still in damn good shape, i abuse it every day.

Most of the tool box tops I've seen have been a piece of counter top laminate or otherwise, cut to fit. Works well.

My plan is to cut a piece of 1" plywood and mount a small vice to it. I solder stuff on it all the time and have already burned a hole in the rubber mat that came on it LOL.
