I searched and wasn't able to find an answer to this question.

I am in the market fo the 44" US General 13 drawer roller cabinet. There seem to be at least 4 part/item numbers for this same item. As far as I can tell, this corresponds to different manufacturers. I know that with the 56" top and bottom, it seems to me that the different manufacturers are of different quality. I wonder if the 44" model is similar in that the different manufacturers are of different quality.

Does anyone have any input on which part number/manufacturer makes the superior product (I know, I know, HF and all that...)

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

There's only one part number on their site, is it possible they've just made small improvements and completely replaced the outgoing model?

I have 2 of the 44" boxes and each of them were a different part number, when you look at them you absolutely cannot tell the difference and when you open and close the drawers absolutely no different. The paint, the quality, the feel absolutely the same. The only difference was the part number.

. Often there is a minor difference. I look at the manual's parts breakdown page for each number. They are on the HF site. Sometimes you can find it there. Some items are known to have significant differences but I have never heard of any for rhe 44". I have one, too. Mine is an older one with the sand finish paint that has been replaced with glossy. It is a valid question but I wouldn't be too concerned on this item. Maybe rhe drawer slides or casters were sourced from a different vender by the manufacturer.

I bought one today and the only thing different from the display model besides not being beat to **** was the badge and the lock. It was on the opposite side and they added pro to the end. I didn't tear into them but that's all I noticed, I can confirm the newest version seems just as nice as the older display model.

I believe I read a thread on here somewhere in the last couple of months where there had been some changes to bracing of the box? maybe casters, too? It was a thread where a shopper was considering these and some Homacks from Northern Tool, and maybe some Craftsman? He measured drawer steel thicknesses, and some other variables.

I bought two last year. Different locks and just oh so slight of a color difference. I think you might find the part number is the same (as I did) but the SKU's are different. I think mine may have been made in different factories (purley a guess based on the packaging). If you wanted them to match when buying more than one, I'd make sure the SKU's and packaging are exactly the same.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll see if I can find that steel thickness thread.

I picked up the shop crane from HF the other day. When I was looking at them online, I noticed it had two different model numbers. I called the 800 number on their website and talked to a very helpful guy out in California. He initially said the different numbers were because it came from different manufacturers (as mentioned above). But then he told me to hold on and got to looking aound. He ended up telling me that one model was 4 months newer than the other and the newer model had different casters.

You might try giving them a call. He apparantly had all that info on the computer screen in front of him. I'm sure they can help with the 4 different numbers.

What I run into at my local store is it can be **** shoot on what model they bring out from the back of the store. It seems like my store typically has plenty of the older stuff. But at least they have gotten rid of all the orange stuff!

I don't know for sure but my guess it is the same tool box but made by a different factory. The company I work for purchased around 10 of the $99 black tool cart and I assembled them. Some had different directions. Some were out of square.

some times it is just as simple as that a company can only run a product on sale for so many days before they have to change the price to the sale price, so companies have several different stock numbers so that they can run them on sale more often, just changing the stock numbers.
