I'm curious how you did the top. Is it wood with a metal veneer?

yep 16 gauge stainless steel over a solid core door, welded corners and small extensions welded on after I fought the door into the pre broke steel.

The break wraps around 1/2" below the door, Very fun job stretching and tweaking it to get the wood inserted. Once in, clamp and weld the corners then install 1" wide 16 gauge strips of cold rolled steel, and weld them to the hemmed stainless, clamp and screw the strips thus pulling the edges in tight to get that perfect 90 degree effect.

I took pictures of the process, will post them up later.

Looks great! Cool ideas integrated too.

Question, does that Metal Prep 79 actually do more than just phosphoric acid? It says it's phosphoric acid based so I'd assume that's doing the majority of the hard work? DO you just spray it on and wipe off or what?

Always looking to improve my metal prior to paint :)

the MP79 is supposed to be a cleaner/degreaser/etching primer all in one,..the instructions say to spray it on, then hose it off. However the way I have done it is the same way I used to use Phosphoric acids, I degrease and clean the metal, then spray on the product, let it sit for several hours in the winter, less in the summer. I take a rag and wipe off any build ups of dusts and immediately spray my primer.

:bounce: awesome thanks.

Couple more questions, what do you use separately to degrease?
Where have you found cheapest place to get the MP79 ?

Only thing I would have done is add some pockets for forks for loading/unloading.

VERY nice none the less!

Nice job! Kinda puts my old, solid door laid across a Harbor Freight 72" box and done approach to shame.:lol::lol:

It is getting quite a bit of use. Makes me happy to see stuff I build get a proper amount of use.

Thanks for pointing me here from the mention in the other thread. I understand the recessed skin and other decisions you made. It looks even nicer now.

The custom label really makes the paint job look OEM.

A little off topic but you have my curiosity up about MP79. However, I can’t find any other references to it. Can you point me to a product page or possibly some additional reading?
