Harbor Freight 44" roller cabinets discontinuing?

I've been needing a > 36" roller cabinet (44", 13 DRAWER INDUSTRIAL QUALITY ROLLER CABINET Lot No. 62270/62744/68784/69387/63271 Expired: 4/30/17 - $339.99) and was waiting for the HF red 44" to drop back to $340 (as shown on hfqpdb) like last year.

Now I'm seeing a different set of model numbers and nomenclature - 44" X 22" DOUBLE BANK ROLLER CABINET Lot No. 64281/64134/64133 for $449.99 with a "list" of $480 on the coupon at HFQPDB. Putting those SKU numbers into search at HF turns up nothing. And the coupon lists it as a "US General series 2".

In my "March Coupon booklet" the 62270/62744/68784/69387/63271 (series 1?) is shown, for $400. (Also the 44" top cabinet in the March catalog is no longer on the web site).

A poster on TBN said the difference is that the drawers on the series 2 are about 1.5" deeper.

Now I was hoping to get the series 1 for $340 (currently $400).

Does anyone know about the series 2? Does it offer anything else but 1.5" and an extra $100?

And are they discontinuing their top cabinets?

It's a little deeper than 1.5" It's going from a 16" deep drawer to a 22" deep drawer. My speculation is that the entire 44" lineup is being upgraded.

I hope there is a market for the smaller cabinets so I can sell mine and buy the deeper models.

The attached photo appears to be legitimate, as the item number matches the coupon that is floating around. I would be surprised if the drawer depth increased by 6", when the exterior of the box is apparently increasing by 3.5".

There is very little info out there right now beyond guesses and speculation. These forums have a tendency to turn speculation into "facts".

They have had a long run. I wanted another pair to match existing one and was able to get them at $349. Perhaps just in time....
Interested to see the new ones

to the OP. Just wait a little while. There will be a ton of used boxes on the market when the deeper ones, in assorted colors come out. I would guess the going rate will stay the same as now- they go for about $200 used, in very good condition (at least around here). You can't beat that...unless you want a deeper box!

Today's the day, at least it was for me. I was able to sweet talk the manager to sell me the old style 44" base for $299. Yesterday I ask another manager and he said as long as he had 1 left in the box, he couldn't do that. This morning I got a flyer in the mail with the new 22" deep box advertized. For my needs, I can't justify the big difference in price but was thrilled to buy this at $299 and I had previously bought the 18" side at $159.
If you are looking for one of these, better hurry

I'm either going to sell mine and ask $300, since it is still like new once I wipe the dust off of it, or convert it into a roll around work bench. Probably give the top to my son since he already as an old bottom I bought him for class.

only old stock is available. my local store only has the new 44" bottom. no sides or top, although i imagine they are coming, since the new catalog shows them.

on the bright side, the new sides list at 199$, recently the old ones were either 219$ or 229$, can't remember which.

since we have already seen coupons for the new bottom, i assume it won't take long for coupons for the new top and sides to appear.

remember there is a thread for hf coupons here:

I got the new 22” deep 44” cabinet for $407 a couple of weeks ago. I had a coupon for $449. The manager said that if I bought the 1 year service that they would give me an off.

I'm pretty sure I screwed up by ordering a Series 2 top cabinet and the "old" bottom cabinet. I'll post after the FedEx guy drops them off.

Still trying to find the old side drawer cabinet not the locker. Since my current 44" is not flush with the back wall, that possibly the new deeper side drawer cabinet may work.

Yeah, I don't thing they are going to fit right.
If you have to, l guess you could put about a 3/4" piece of plywood on the bottom one, and let the excess of the depth of the top one extend toward the rear?
What's your location?
I'll bail you out, what the heck,:dunno: (Welcome, BTY)
To show you what a nice group of guys we are, I'll take the bottom one of your hands for $200.00.
Hope that helps.......................
EDIT:

what kind of price did you get for the "series 1" bottom?

Now I was hoping to get the series 1 for $340 (currently $400).

Does anyone know about the series 2? Does it offer anything else but 1.5" and an extra $100?

And are they discontinuing their top cabinets?

I was just in my store and they have the original 44s on the floor to clear them out. I just picked up a brand new 44 original for $258.

Was told by the store manager that the new 44s will not be on the showroom until the originals are gone. Not sure if that's just my store, but you might be able to score a nice deal on any remaining original 44s.

Good luck!

my local store only has the new bottoms, but has the price hanger (at 399$) for the old bottoms on them. i mentioned this to the manager, since they have treated me well over the years. i mentioned that the new one was 499$ list, and he didnt want any customers to show up looking for the 399$ one but not being able to buy one. he took the hanger off to check and see if they had any old ones still around. i noticed that the hanger had returned, still with the 399$ price, on the way to the checkout. since he was hanging around there i asked if he had any older ones left. he said nope, just the newer deeper ones.

I didn't realize that the Series 2 stuff was much deeper and picked up a locker for my original stuff and it is deeper but the front bolt holes line up it just has four or so inches extra in the back. Oh, the drawer liners are much better too. They are actual liners and not just pieces of thin foam. If anyone needs pictures or dimensions just let me know.

The series 2 boxes look great. HF was always the bargain brand but it's a nice step up. It's no Snap On but its better imo.

I just got the series 1 top cabinet for 232.99.
Series 1 bottoms were 399.00.
The top was marked Open Box Item and a manager said that was because it was the last one. I didn't get the bottom because he led me to believe that they may yet go down in price.

Just got my catalog and they show the series 2 line. The mechanics carts come in blue, black and red but the tool chest just shows red.

$449 for the 44", 22" deep.

Any one have any word if the series 2 will be in the new colors, specifically blue?

I popped in to a local HF yesterday and spoke with the manager. He said the new series 2 stuff will be offered in different colors (I assume blue and black) but no one knows when they will be available, nor does anyone know if the whole series will be available, or if release of each product will be staggered. He speculated that anything other than red will have to be delivered and not available for pickup in the store.

I wish I knew when they will be available. I'm ready to buy a new 44" box and side locker today, and while red is fine, it would be nice to be able to get the whole set in black or blue.

I was at my "local" HF store on Saturday and they had just sold the last Series 1 bottom box. They had a Series 2 top on display priced at $258, said they had to sell it because it was "open box". I played with it briefly, looked really nice. I was in and out quickly so I didn't have a chance to look at anything else on display.

If they are going to come out with different colors, I will wait. I'd rather have blue, or black as a second choice.

Can someone with the new Series 2 box confirm the height not counting casters? I am not near a store to verify in person. Website and customer service give conflicting measurements.

Judging by the height of the side locker it should be the same as the original. Mine still hung on the side and the bolt hole on the bottom lined up. I think it just got deeper and a few other details.

Resurrecting thread for those looking for old stock. Sebring, FL HF has one Series 1 bottom 44" box in the "markdown section" for $319.99 and one side locker for $239.99. Not a monster saving, but if anyone is looking and semi local, there you go.
