No more 20% discounts on tool boxes. They used to do it, but now the coupons specifically exclude tool boxes.

So, unless you find someone who doesn't care about the rules, you won't get 20% off.

I bought mine back when you could, so I only paid $279 :D

Cracks me up....I just got the new HF ad and it has the roller box for $369.00 on one page and several pages further in it's $399.00. Shows the same item number on both ads.

Hotrod magazine has the $359 coupons every month along with a 20%, I'd guess others do too.

I had no problems using a 25% off coupon on the 56" roller this morning via a phone order. My local store refused to take it. Still had to pay for shipping but it was $110 cheaper than the store.

I just tried the 25% off coupon on a 44" tool chest online and it wouldn't accept it.

I also tried the 25% off coupon for the 44", no go. Then I whipped out the $359.00 backup coupon and bought it. I'm very happy with it. The new gloss red exactly matches the 5 drawer roller cabinet I bought, which is also made quite nicely...maybe the same manufacturer?

I have to tell you though that neither one is as nice as the Northern Tool welding cart I bought. I paid $185.00 for it and it is truly a very nice, very well made cart/cabinet.

All in all, I'm set for a while.

Again, refer to the garage journal HF coupon thread or the Slickdeals thread. This is covered ad nauseum

I just went to the HF in Raleigh NC. Picked up the 44" toolbox. Quite the piece! Well built and comes with drawer liners.

Was on sale for $369 but is normally $399. Cashier asked if I had a 20% coupon and I said yes. First time she entered the coupon code, it didnt work. So she charged me full price ($399) and then took 20% off. Bottom line, I got this for $319.

Needless to say I was a happy camper to save the $50 over the on-sale price.

Question for owners- any idea of dimensions of the packaging it comes in? Trying to figure if I can fit it in the back of a VW Sportwagen or if I've got to call a friend with a truck.

Thanks!

I'd be more concerned about the weight than if it fits or not. It weighs over 300lbs.

Get a truck. It comes on a mini pallet, and the toolbox is pre assembled, styrofoamed around the corners, and then boxed.

No different than 2x200lb grown men in the back seat, but point taken.

Edit: the sportwagen is a 2012 Jetta

Not only on a pallet but it is crated with wood all around, really pretty good packaging. Figure whatever they list the tool box size as and add 4"-6". It isn't the weight being too much for the car it is how are you going to get a 300lb cube in and out without damage being done to the car.

Put a call in to a friend with a truck. (Man... another excuse for me to buy a pick-up!) I'm actually really glad to hear that it's both packaged well, and comes assembled. I wasn't sure what kind of nightmare assembling it would be if it came in pieces.

That's what I meant regarding the weight - moving a 300lb+ box that is a tight fit will cause all sorts of problems. It's not easy to get a lot of strength at weird angles. Also, while cars can easily take 300lbs worth of passengers, those passengers are typically between the axles. The cargo area of a Jetta is not really meant to handle heavy weights from a suspension point of view as well as the cargo area cover (usually relatively flimsy).

Certainly far crazier stuff has been done, but I would consider it un-fun enough to consider alternatives.

The time is coming for me to get two of those boxes, and I just plan on renting a low U-haul trailer. I also plan on buying a 1 or 2-ton shop crane, which I will conveniently use to unload the boxes from the trailer.

I brought one home crated in the back of my Outback and it barely fit. I believe the Jetta is smaller, so uncrated might work. At my HF they had a lift that made loading it a breeze. Unloading crated was not nearly as bad as I expected and I did it solo.
