In the spirit of the cart mod thread I thought I'd create a thread for the Yukon 46" workbench and show my mods to get it kicked off. I got it for $239.99 with this coupon...
I needed a second work surface with storage and instead of building something I decided that I'd just buy the HF workbench and mod it. This is going in my house in my gun room. I wanted to install my pancake compressor in the cabinet so it was still removable but also have access to air from the outside. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the cabinet and installed a quick connect using a male fitting and a 1/2" washer. Short jumper hose and some quick connectors from HF and I was in business. Compressor is way quieter in the cabinet than just running in the floor.
I drilled a 1 3/4" hole in the back with a hole saw so I could run the cord out. Very handy that there is a plug right behind where I positioned the bench in my gun room.
I also wanted to electrify the workbench so I bought a 48" power strip from HF and mounted it to the back of the top with a couple pieces of aluminum angle. I cut off the end mounting tabs on the power strip to just clean up the install. Works great and also prevents anything from falling off the back of the bench.
So far I'm super happy with the workbench. It fit perfectly in the space I had for it in the gun room.
What have you guys done to mod yours?
