I haven't been on here in a while so someone else may have already posted about this, but my Harbor freight just got the 56" top box in. Its $499 for top and $799 for the bottom right now. Not bad deal at all - $1300 for a Huge tool box.

To the OP, were you able to open the drawers? If so how did they feel? Was there a wobble to them?

Dan

Got them in my store too. I did feel the drawers, and they're the same as the bottom. If you like the bottom, you'll like the top.

I work on cars for a living, and am considering this Combo. I see all the great reviews on the bottom, but the 2 things I worry about are the plastic locks wearing out and breaking, and also the drawers/slides wearing out fully loaded. Crazy that I Could buy 3 of these combos Top AND bottom for less than price of a new SO Classic 78.

I feel bad for you guys who have to pay full retail. The SEP pricing on a Classic 78 is 2100 and you receive a 400 dollar card. If you're in SoCal I might be able to help you out if you are seriously looking for a new box. I have to recommend searching CL though. Smoking deals pop up there regularly. I bought a KRA2312 w/ a side box and well used HF 3 shelf cart for 500. Then I bought a KRA555-KR550 top and bottom for 460. Saving the best for last, a KRL 7002 in great shape for 1100. The deals are out there you just have to look and be ready with cash in hand as soon as you see the ad. Depending on the deal you damn near have to contact them within minutes of the ad being posted.

Those seem like some mighty wide drawers for a top box. But that is just my humble opinion. :dunno:

I wonder how many more they would sell if they offered them in black ? :dunno:

I think you're right, and I like black MUCH better, but it befuddles me to no end that people care that much. I have a red 44, and I am not a fan of red at all, but it was the best value and since I am not entering it in a beauty contest, what do I care what color it is? Someday I might paint it, when I am bored and am lacking in projects (haha, as if).

Anyway, to each their own and no offense for those who color match their boxes and tools. I am sure it looks better than my red 44 and wood dresser (on casters!)

Just a matter of personal preference. If you scroll through the "toolbox" thread, you'll see how many guys don't red boxes when other colors are available. Maybe part of it is the size of the box. While some might not mind a red 26" Cman box, they don't wan't a later 44" and up red box.

Like you said, to each their own. . . .

It was the floor sample. They let it go for $550 plus added on another free year of IT. The labels, handles, keys had never been unpacked from the packaging. It was like new just not in a crate.

Nice setup, but this weekend I'm finally picking up this 72" bottom box at Rural King for $800, and in a couple weeks I'll pick up the top box for $400:

I have had that bottom box now for a couple years. It is way better than you would expect from HF and will serve as a home use box probably as long as I will need. It is as good as most of the new Craftsman stuff that is out there, but no where near the quality or sturdiness of my old snap on or cornwell boxes. If I was making a living with it, I suspect it would not last.

That said, I will definitely look into the new top box.

Anyone saw the coupon for $100 off of it yet, and if so where. I'm cheap, I want that top but not at full price. It's already going to be job to rearrange the garage to get it on top the bottom.

Off topic but it is in the picture, those mini metal sweepers are the bomb. For 20 bucks the are stronger than you think.

However one word of caution, the handle mount is weak, weak, weak you will need to beef up where it threads into the cross bar. But hey that is what one does with HF tools... modify them so the work better, it cost more to build than mod them.

I checked the new 56 top box today as I browsed the parking lot sale today. It's a nice looking box but, the top till is real shallow. You couldn't stand a deep socket up and close the lid. :wtf:

I went as well with every intention of buying it. But all they had was the floor model and wouldn't sell it. Same quality as the bottom box btw. And ya, that top is about useless. I'm hoping between the bottom and top I can do some draw swapping and get a layout that works better for me.
