What's under it? Anybody ever take it off? Purists will scream but I'm about to put a 56 top on a snap on epiq bottom and the center trim bar is not going to line up and I know it will drive me crazy. I may even order epiq edge trim and put on the hf56 top so it matches. Wasn't sure if it was just double stick tape or what. Thanks

I'm going to buy the 56 this weekend. My new goal is just to remove the trim off of it completely. Hopefully the trim is just held on with tape and when I'm done it will look more like the hf44

I am hoping another coupon for $649 pops up. Missed the last one expiring by a day.

There’s two different part numbers for the 56” top box, and two different numbers for the bottom. I bought two black 56” bottoms a few weeks ago. Each of my stores had only one in stock, so I bought them separately and didn’t notice the number difference until I got them both home. There are concerning differences between the two. The top ledge on the front of the drawers are different. One measures approx 1 1/8”, front edge to rear edge, vs 3/4” on the other box. One box has rivets front AND rear on the inside cabinet slides. No rear rivet on the other box, which makes the drawers squeak like hell and cause excess side to side wobble when opening, but I’ll fix that. Also, different casters, different top mat, and one has thicker/beefier plastic drawer latches. I even weighed the upper right narrow drawers from both cabinets on a bathroom scale, and there was approximately a 1 to 2 pound difference in weight. If I had it to do again I would definitely make sure to get both with part number 64457. I feel it is the better of the two. FAR BETTER! It just feels much heavier duty and more like a truck box. The 64458 just feels like a Craftsman box to me. I’m assuming the red boxes would have the same differences between part numbers. My two are obviously manufactured in different factories. I’ve since been to one of my stores that displayed one factory’s top on the other factory’s bottom. If you weren’t looking for the differences, it would be hard to notice, but I definitely notice it now! *****, but too much of a hassle to load back up and return.

OP, I know you’re buying the top box, but it would be the same issues with the top depending on which number you get, minus the casters and top mat. Just a heads up.

Edit: After posting this, I started a new thread on the differences between the two boxes in the General Tool Discussion forum. It goes into a little more depth.
