Harbor Freight 72” roller cabinet top drawer

Both locations near me don’t have a floor model in stock to measure the width of the top drawer.

Found a thread on here with measurements on the old style HF 72” box.

I have a new white Husky 52” that has double slide top drawer that measures 48.5” which is great for sockets,

Looking to buy some new boxes after selling my craftsman stuff and was looking between the Husky 56” mobile workbench that has a 52.5” double slide top drawer and the 72” HF (would like it white!). Can’t find the top drawer measurements though, so not sure it’s worth it to buy and then also deal with a 72” box if I’m not getting much more width in the large drawer.

Have the HF Mech cart and it’s great!

The Harbor Freight boxes are amazing I use them as a professional mechanic and have had no issues. The new guy at work has a Husky the same size as the one you mentioned just his is black it seems like a sturdy well built box. As for the measurements I have no idea I will see tomorrow if I can measure it if I’m not too busy.

I have a Harbor Freight near me and when I have time I browse around. I wish those boxes were there wen I was turning wrenches. but quit after 35 years 20 years ago. Boxes look real good and if younger would get one in a heart beat.

Wow thanks guys! Yeah I won’t be moving my boxes around a whole lot besides the HF mech cart, as it’s my home garage with a couple lifts.

I thought the HF 72” had a larger top drawer. I really like them and are much sturdier than my Husky 52” box, which isn’t terrible but not the same quality. The series 2 boxes from HF are a great deal.

Nice setup. How well does the spray foam work? Is it noisy? Hopefully I’ll be building my shop next year. I was thinking about the 56” top box but I like the bench space. I’m running out of room.

I do have the cart too. That was my first purchase to check out the quality.

I did the spray foam as well, really cooled the space just during construction from metal roof.

Made a huge difference. It tightened the building up quite a bit, sound wise, as well. Before having it done, rainstorms could be deafening inside.

I'm in middle TN and even before I installed the mini split I was able to keep it tolerable inside in 95 degree July with just a 10k BTU portable a/c unit and a few fans. The mini split will keep it at 73 all day long if need be. 1800 square feet.

Yeah I like the cart, very solid. That’s the husky 52” next to it and the “snap off” sticker lol.

Can’t tell me a $900 snap on cart makes any sense when this is $180~, not perfect but not $700 difference.

I’ve heard that the spray foam is noisy when the metal expands and contracts.

A little, but not enough for me to call it noisy. More like an old house popping and creaking every now and then as it settles.

I don’t know why I thought the 72” cabinet had a 55/56” top drawer.

I really like the add on side drawer unit for the large roller cabinets, they just hang on the side and there is a bolt also?

I was going to help, but since the OP’s question has already been answered I’ll just join the others in posting pictures of blue 72” boxes... [emoji51]

Like the wall of license plates behind it too I collect license plates just don’t want to drill or nail something to my cinder block wall lol so they just hang in my room and not in the basement.

Nice! Looks like you have more than one blue box. You also have a similar red vice on yours also.

I’ve got a 26” USG roller cabinet next to it that I use as my “service cart” when I’ve got a vehicle on my lift. That one has been great too... Vise is a Yost ADI-5 that I’m also very happy with.

Are you guys just using large fender washers or a backer plate when you mount your vices to the box tops?

Just thought I'd add a pic of my 72" Black HF box. Don't really care for the drawer locks you have to pull when you open the drawers but other than that it's a nice box. As of now I enjoy using the entire top of the box as a work surface, don't think I'll add a top or if I do it will be a smaller one to save some work space.

I've got a piece of 3/4" plywood fastened to the underneath of the top where I put the vise. Basically I "sandwiched" the plywood between the underside of the top and the fender washers+nuts. Rock solid for my use, but I'm not going to be hanging off of the vise as I know the top wasn't designed for this...

Very slick, I like that idea plus grabs a lot more of the top to spread out the load.
