I have had the 7"x10" HF. For me it's a hobby (since retiring from Air Force). I find the tweaking and improving very therapeutic. Cross slide tight and grabby, an hour later gliding smooth. Part of the fun.
I've learned threading and have made some excellent threads on plastic, aluminum and steel. I pretty picky and and I've been well satisfied thus far. Only complaint is when I screw up and bind something (still learning) therearesome adjustments needed.
I liked it so much I've purchased a HF mini mill/drill. Pretty nice to me. I'll outgrow the lathe and when I do I'll upgrade but for now I'm having a ball!
