Does anyone have any experience with the air saws sold by Harbor Freight? They look like they might be better than a SawsAll type for cutting sheet metal, because they have a shorter stroke. Here are the two that they list:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=113

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91753

They have the same picture, but different item numbers. One thing that concerns me is that the blades might be proprietary, i.e. you can only get them from HF. If their blades weren't any good, the saw wouldn't be any good.

TIA, Brady

I have one it works pretty good not quite as powerful as my cornwell one but still nice for the price. The blades from HF are not all that bad either and you can find them in other places I get some real nice ones from cornwell that will take a bunch of abuse.

I have that saw and it works good. I don't use it a lot but mostly for plastics and hard to reach places. For thicker sheet metal I use the sawzall or jig saw. The blades for this saw at HF are $7.99 and they have 2 different TPI kinds. I don't have a picture of them but they look different than most others even if you google air body saw blades. I think SO or other tool makers care the blades though. I haven't done it yet but I was going to see if the 'regular' body saw blades will work, I think they will.

Buy the saw on sale with a 20% off coupon and you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the replies.

Mike: How do you get the 20% off coupons? I buy from them occasionally, and regularly get their catalogs, but have never got any % off coupons.

Severed: Where can I get the Cornwell blades?

Are you signed-up for their email promotions? I got two 20% coupons in the last 2 weeks from them which were valid for about 4 days each.

Thanks for the response. No I am not. How do you get signed up? I looked on their site and didn't see anything about it. They have asked me if I wanted to be in some sort of club, but I figured that I would not buy enough stuff to be worth the cost of membership.

Edit: I did find the signup form on their website. Thanks again!

pick up some hacksaw blades.. you can cut them down to whatever length you need. or you can get 2 airsaw blades out of 1 hacksaw blade, make your money go farther.

We bought one of these at work when our Ingersoll Rand saw broke. We got a few hours of use out of it before it broke. We were able to steal the part that was broken in the Ingersoll Rand saw from the harbor freight saw though to get it working again.

Harbor Freight Air Saw 91753 $9.99

I don't want to be a dope about this, but quick check from anyone with one of these...
Seems there are 2 Allen socket 'set screws' for the blade, one on either side of the mandrel, (seems foolish?).
Please check me out, seem to me You can really only get to one at a time by rotating the mandrel and really only one, when a blade installed. SO, 1) why 2 and do you just 'set' the off side one at the blade depth, and use the accessable side to tighten the blade?
Anyway my thought at the moment, is to grind access slots into the case so I can get to both L&R allens, as needed, thoughts?:headscrat
