We have the HF pass/fail thread, but that's a little difficult to navigate at 336 pages and growing. Plus, that thread is a home for reviews of every single HF tool ever (tens of thousands of items).

The goal for this thread is to gather a short list of best-of-the-best Harbor Freight has to offer. These are tools that almost everyone would agree are very good quality, and an excellent value.

Request: I would like to keep this thread focused on simply what HF tools you consider best-of-the-best, and avoid discussion cluttering it with request for reviews, or "What do you guys think of such-and-such tool?" type posts.

Here is the list that I've got so far based on previous knowledge of GJ favorites and feedback in this thread. I am also collecting a running list of "nominees" - if they get enough votes, I'll add them to the All-Stars list.

If you disagree, please comment. If there is disagreement on if something is an "All-Star" or instead just a "generally good tool/good deal", I'll make that note, and potentially remove them from All-Star status.

I'm wondering if I should try to add what is generally considered a "good price" for each All-Star...

Currently, I'm using a criteria of (+5) unique positive mentions to move an item to the All-Star list.

Once the item is in the list, I will only track the number of dissenting opinions (tallied as "negative votes) from those that do not think the item belongs as an All-Star. If the negative tally of an All-Star becomes significant, I will reevaluate it's inclusion in the list.

Edit: (10/02/2014)
Updated the OP with all the nominations through post #55. Moved the following items into the All-Star list:
"Pro" screwdrivers
Nitrile gloves

Edit: 10/02/2014 - Updated through post #74

Edit: 10/04/2014 - Updated through post #99. Moved the following items into the All-Star list:
4.5" angle grinder
The magnetic parts trays have several dissenting opinions, hence they have not been moved into the all-star list.
Added links to most of the All-Star items.

Edit: 10/06/2014 - Updated through post #141.

Most people around here like the composite ratchets.
I like the magnetic parts trays just fine...

2nd the Torque wrench nomination. My 200 Inch Pound version is within 2% over the full range - not bad for a $10 (with coupon) tool!

Maybe not a tool per se but I've always loved the moving blankets. I always buy a couple when they are on sale. Use them for everything.

Oh the gloves are pretty solid too!

Battery chargers. Got several of the 2-10A + 55A start on sale for $25. Handy to have sitting around - got one dedicated to my electrolysis tank, others in various garages. Handy.

I updated the OP with the results so far.

What do you think if I tried to include what is considered a "good price" for the particular item in question? For example, the 44" toolchest would be $369, since that is the (current) lowest price you can get on it.

Do they still offer the large 4 magnet tray? I Had to re-glue a couple of magnets on mine, but no big deal, great tray for a fraction of others. 4 piece Pitt pro 3/8" locking extensions..locktite the set screws, and good to go. Torque wrenches..I compare mine to my beam type often, and they are always VERY close! Right angle air die grinder..Very good..I have two. On one the gears are sloppy, so I use it for "light duty" The other is tight, I kinda push them, they both are holding up well. Picked up the three piece pro CM wobble impact extensions..I like 'em. These are tools I use everyday...I feel they have paid for themselves, and more.

I think the free tape measures are a great product. the ends are nice and tight and I would even pay the $6.99 for the tapes.

I think the "no brainer" HF tools (in other words, must buys) are:

breaker bars
torque wrenches (so cheap you can keep them in your trunk for flat tire changes)
freebie LED flashlights (give 'em to your friends and family for purses, glove compartments)

Also, I like the 7 piece ratcheting wrench sets that are quite nice.

Pittsburgh Pro screwdrivers

Price/quality ratio is great on the short bar clamps.

For $2.99 who cares if they break.

I buy a pair every time I go in.

Some for the job, some for the truck, some for the welding cart, and some on the bench.

Haven't had any problems yet.

Bend em, brake em, burn em up with the welder -- No problem.

The longer ones, not so much

Their new flex head ratchets sound like winners based on the other thread going around now. I'll be picking up a 44" box tomorrow for escuela, might just pick up these new ratchets depending on if my store has them or not and how they look quality wise in person.

The Blue mechanics gloves are a win for $3.89.

The price/quality ratio is on point. They fit well, are perfect for most jobs, last decently long, and are cheap enough that I'm not upset when I lose one out of the truck or off the 4 wheeler.

Things that I have first hand experience with:

2 ton engine crane
2 ton load level (the plastic handle has a tendency to unscrew itself, though)
1000lb engine stand
1000lb mover's dolly
5 drawer service cart
6 gallon, 150psi, oilless compressor (loud but doesn't leak with occasional usage...had it for 10 months now)
60 gallon, 165psi, 2 stage, oil lubed compressor (brother has had it a bit over a year with no problems)
3/8" composite ratchet

I'm going to have to disagree on the tape measures, free or not. I have 2 of them, and they both have smeared sections on the scale painting. Unimpressive.
