I was just thinking how useful it would be to have a list of Country of Origin for Harbor Freight. I know most of the items are China, but many are Taiwan which is considered decent quality and there are even some USA made items there.

Anyone have any USA items or Taiwan items they want to share? Wouldn't mind picking some USA items up with my 25% off coupon.

The ratcheting wrenches are Taiwan made. Similar bulk on the boxed end as the Chinese Craftsman ratcheting wrenches. Half the price of the Craftsmans as well. Seem to work as smoothly as the CM as well. Couldn't tell you durability just the observations I made.

Know whats useful? Having a tool that works, no matter the origin.

But, I guess that only matters to me since I actually work in the field for a living and dont do it as a hobby.

I dont look at being made in north america as better quality im willing to pay more to keep some guy in a job.

HF sells a yellow plastic parts funnel tray that is made in the USA, very nice and useful item. They have them over in the fastener section, I think they are about 2 bucks. You can dump out all of your screw/nut/bolts mixture, pick out what you want and then funnel them back into the jar. Very cool item.

HF also sells a small japaneese saw with a beech handle, razor sharp and very flexible, They are made in Japan, and sell for about $8.00. Again very sharp thin blade great for cutting small wood pieces, pvc pipe, fine trim work. Very high quality.

Ditto on the Goodyear hoses, very good.

They sell a Gates type link belt that is either made in the USA or Italy for like $27.00.

After 25 years of using thier impact socket in constructon I would not spend a dime on anyother brand. They have held up very well and I have not broken one of them. I have driven thousands of lag screws and put on thousands of bolts. They work great. The only thing I hate is that they skip numbers int he metric sizes. I want a full set. I have many brands of impact sockets. I have picked up so many sets for 75 cents each. One thrift store buys mini storage units and they are not bright. for the past 12 years I have been buying them for $1 each with a 25% discount. LOL I have all the truck brands form there. I like the new HF ratchets. I got some for the job sites and they are holding up well,

I have used the MM version of those wrenches quite a bit and think that they are really quite nice. They have held up well.

Yes:+1: on the USA good year air hose and the Taiwan impact sockets. Also pick up the orange dead blow hammers :thumbup:

I like the tubes of super lube grease for $4.99 or $5.99 per tube I even think it might be made over here.

I think there are cases where buying some of that is great, its really more local than you think. As someone said about the wrenches, they work and you pocket the difference to spend in your local neighborhood.

Nobody getting robbed buying a set of HF wrenches,,, great for the consumer and get the Chinese to work for you for pennies on the dollar.

The metric (color coated) ratcheting wrenches are one of the few HF tools I have. Have held up for 5 years, including countless hammer persuasions on the ratcheting box end.

USA made Black GoodYear air hoses have been gone since December 2012 from HF (unless you can order them online). Now replaced with the red Chinese sourced hoses. Black Gy 25 foot USA units were clearenced in a week at my local stores.

Which is also why this thread is a lesson in futility.

Monthly, quarterly and yearly HF changes suppliers for in-house products in many cases.

I used to be able to get Italy made nuts and bolts holders/bins for $9.99 double sided in the stores. That went over to Chiese made units last year and now they no longer stock them. Flat big knife Sharpening stones the same way.

You just have to read the packaing and expect nothing that you saw last time in to be the same. If it is, then great. Designs and Coo's change with no notice at all.

Thus my no-expectations mantra.

Good luck.

In farming the low cost and hi quality of the relatively modern import wrench has allowed for easy duplication. No longer is there "the wrench" from the roll but a couple in sizes we use tossed in tool boxes, on carts, in trucks, on tractors where they are needed. A couple end wrenches for the cost of one big mac. Saves hundreds of movements, trips, worry, care, cost, taxes.

Same with some impact sockets, let us easily duplicate numbers, wouldnt have been availiable at an affordable cost 30 yrs ago.
