This one is good till 2/5/2021

Sweet, thanks. I have a buddy who is a special needs teacher and he deals with HS kids and young adults to teach them how to be independent and do things for themselves. He asked if I had coupons because he needs to buy tool kits for them.

I reverse imaged searched your attachment and found a bigger, clear version.

I would always just Google and easily find a coupon, I bet most of the time hfqdb is where Google took me. I Googled the other day and got no results, even searched the HF website. Thanks for the link. I don't get catalogs in the snail-mail in a long time, but I still used to get the one page flyer with the Tuesday junkmail...Haven't seen that in months either.

The other day I bought the 120v spot welder it was $159 (not on sale) I figured I'd use the 20% off coupon to save about $30 but when i got to the check out I was told you can't use the 20% coupon on any welding equipment..........I said really?, I never heard that before.

My first thought is they think they have us hooked and are now taking away many of the incentives to buy from them. The coupons have gotten more restrictive by adding more and more brands/items to the list, sounds like less to no 20% off coupons, etc.

I definitely am shopping there less and less now compared to before.

I think a big portion of it is the trade tariffs. Most of the restrictions happened last year. Harbor Freight sees sales as the least impactful profit boost they can make.

I’m curious if things will ever “go back” or if they are gone for good.

Just got an email for limited time savings (through 2/11). At the bottom is a link for 20% off Icon wrenches. Out of curiosity I clicked it but doesn't seem to show price drops. In fact, I added some flex ratcheting wrench sets to my cart and it says they are excluded, even though they are in the picture on the email and come up when you click it. Anyone else?

Stopped in to HF today with an older printed 20% off coupon. Wanted to pick up a pair of Doyle side cutters. Cashier said the coupon wouldn’t scan up as good. I said; OK, I”ll pass. Didn’t make it one step away when he says Hold on. Punches up a screen, taps in a few numbers and the Rickster gets 20% off on those pliers!

Have your teacher friend fill out the form on this link for free tool sets donated by HF.

https://www.harborfreightgivingback.com/tools-for-schools/

Here is an excellent article about the program that donated 3500 tool kits:

Cashier can also simply enter the numbers on the coupon if it can not scan.

Just heard a rumor HF is dropping coupons. It was on Reddit, and little evidence was cited.

They’ve been pushing into ITC pretty hard, curious what happen.

Some additional info to the rumor:

• They are just changing the coupons into Instant Savings deals so you don't need to present a coupon any longer, similar to their recent change to ITC.

• The deals and savings are the same as you would get with coupons, just through the Instant Savings program instead.

• People who want even more deals and savings can sign up for ITC.

• They will still do occasional coupons, most likely for holidays/special events/limited stock items.

Seems this is the first time ever there are NO valid 20% coupons. A lot of everyday stuff that never goes on sale or has a specific coupon just isn't any cheaper than you can get anywhere else.

the den of tools guy also talked about this the other day. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot here. They seem to be pricing themselves out of the market w/ some of their tools these days too.

I know my brother and I were some of their best customers for years. I have three of their tools chests. The last year I was in there probably four times and one of those was to help a friend with a compressor. It's become less expensive to just buy elsewhere. I pretty much stopped when I discovered it was less expensive to buy Channellocks than their latest brand.

Yeah i have been watching their prices trend upwards in the last 5 years to be point they meet or exceed some competition. And when they compare tool pricing on their site the way they do it has rubbed me the wrong way as some of the prices they use are not a fair comparison. Reminds me of Kia/Hyundai. Used to be a budget car but now are prices similar to comparable Honda/Toyotas. My last Kia optima cost me $38K in 2013 money.

Steel prices are shooting way up, they are also having supply chain issues. The ports are way backed up in CA, I'm sure this all effects things.

Yep, Den of Tools confirmed, no more coupons per say or catalogues, pushing more to make us become an inside track member who will get bigger discounts.

Yep, less supply means more demand. They were getting a bit more uppity than they should before all this though. LOL

Kinda sad about the coupons and free stuff going away but at least I got me a pile of flashlights and microfiber cloths! For now looks like the last legit under-$1 deal is for these magnetic trays, which expires in a few days: http://www.hfqpdb.com/best_coupon/4"+MAGNETIC+PARTS+HOLDER

The closest HF to me is about 30-40 minutes, and with the coupons and a Menards down the street, I could find a reason to head that way, but with another Menards and a Home Depot (and a Kohls that handles Amazon returns for free) half the distance away, seems there'll be less trips to HF for me.

Hey - thank you for running hfqpdb.com! After I found your website I'd have it loaded on my phone pretty much every time I walked into the store.

This started long ago. A good friend of mine was a store manager then went up their corporate ladder. At first he was very excited that they started really upping the quality. It was several years ago he told me about the new ratchets a couple of years before they came out. I did really like them and bought most variations. He left them early last year after becoming disillusioned with the direction they were headed. He didn't get specific but now I can see what he didn't want to be a part of. This really reminds me of JCPenny cutting their own throat.

Harbor Freight has for at least a couple years now been trying to go more "upmarket" to compete with tool truck brands. They've discontinued some of their best lines (e.g. Pittsburgh Pro) that really were hitting a great balance between price and quality.

Now they stock ****-grade junk and overpriced Chinese imports. Their Icon line is not likely to succeed versus name-brand tools, as it isn't terribly competitive on price.

HF has always been about supplying decent(ish) tools for good prices. They've been trying to shake that image and chase the higher margins of big brands, but the problem is that they're still Harbor Freight.

Just a few months ago they opened up a new store in a location that's super convenient to me. I thought that would be a dangerous thing; I spent probably a grand there last month alone.

However, with no coupons at all and with prices that are not competitive I just don't have a reason to shop there. I'm not going to buy Icon, I'm going to buy Tekton or Sunex; I'm not going to buy Pittsburgh-branded junk, I'll just buy whatever is convenient on Amazon. I'm not going to buy Vulcan; if I need yet another welder I'll just buy AHP or Everlast if I'm not buying Miller.

I'm in the market for yet another 2 tool chests but will probably end up going with Husky or something similar.

I am in the fabrication industry. I understand what has been happening to steel prices and supply chains, I absolutely do. However, it doesn't seem wise for HF to emulate Sears' business practices. Maybe the sales and coupons will come back. If they do, I'll return as a customer. Until that time, there are better options.

I fully agree. Some of their stuff is a good deal and good quality but most of their budget line stuff like grinders and such ****. Would rather spend $20 more for a name brand that will last some time. I've also learned in my metal fab business if you use it once a day buy something good. If you use it once a year than Harbor freight is probably fine.

Was just in there today and picked up a "open box" 5 drawer cart for $150. Didn't have any major blemishes on it, so score on that. They also got a lime green 72" top chest on display, looks pretty sweet, but it's hard to justify almost $1,000 for it when the 56" top box is only $500.

Regarding the coupons. I am fine if they cut back on the 20% coupons a little bit, they were virtually worthless anyways. What I think would be most beneficial for them is if they did like a 10-15% coupon one or two weeks a month, then do a 3-day 20% off anything coupon once a month. I think that'd be a best of both worlds type of thing, maybe even let them overlap to really get people in there again. Also kind of continue what they did a month or so ago, where if you became a member you get 5% more off your purchase, maybe expand on that.

yeah if they did brand select coupons once a month that are good for a week that would be beneficial especially if you want an ICON box or something you dont need right away you can wait for coupon to buy it

Lot of people claiming that, but is there any reason to believe that information is valid?

No one at HF seems to know about it, there are still coupons on their website valid into March, and the local coupon mailings still have their coupons. At the very least the 2/5/2021 cutoff he claims in that video seems wrong.

From their site...

https://www.harborfreight.com/customer-service-faqs.html#2

"HAVEN'T RECEIVED A PRINT CATALOG FROM US? HERE'S WHY
We've changed the way we deliver the great savings you count on at Harbor Freight. We've moved from sending printed coupons and mailed monthly catalogs, to a digital format that makes it possible to send you even more savings, more often. You can find our very latest offers on our website—the same website you're on right now—but the best way to learn about our promotions is by email. When you sign up to receive our emails, you’ll get great savings sent directly to your inbox. You can also find the latest savings and deals on our new Harbor Freight Mobile App for IOS and Android phones. It’s free and available for download at both the App Store and Google Play.

Why did we make this change? We're always looking to make everything we do better for our customers—the tools we sell, the values we provide, and the way we help you save. And providing these savings digitally offers a lot more for our customers:

- No more lost or late delivery—just check your inbox or our website
- You learn about the latest deals the instant they’re available—no more waiting a month for new deals and savings by mail
- Click on any item to get product information, reviews, product videos—everything you need to choose the right tool for your needs."

I suspect some flyers or coupons that are still popping up are possibly contracts being completed with a printer/publication. Personnally, I'd like to see the printed catalogs and magazine flyers continue but with nearly everything going digital I don't see them spending the extra dollars going back to print. Although I don't shop there very often I have found their app to be handy to see current discounts on items.

I bet that everyone that works there is under a gag order. They dont want employees discussing with customers. They probably prefer all communications come from corporate with no injections of personal feelings.

I agree, this is 100% in the “rumor” category, but most people aren’t even paying attention to the content of the rumor and think “no more coupons” means “list price only”

Personally, I’d be hugely in favor of not needing coupons anymore. It’s a giant pain in the **** at checkout. Honestly, if they went ITC-only for discounts, I’d even be happy with that.

Most of these rumored changes have nothing to with prices, which we know HF has been under enormous pressure with tariffs and raw material prices (not to mention ridiculous shipping backlogs at our ports).

I think discussion of the rumor should at least take into account the actual changes the rumor proposes.
