I do not give my phone number to retail stores.

You don't need to, they already have it from your form of payment, unless you ALWAYS pay cash and have NEVER used any other form of payment.

Use a credit card one time and all the stores can get your phone number and information.

Donations are tax write-offs, so I assume they are writing those gloves off.

At the same time, price of their nitrile gloves in the store is about 3 times higher than the pre-pandemic price.

This is pretty much my thinking as well. Though they claimed to have donated their nitrile gloves, they aren't sterile, so I'm not sure what medical facility would use them. Second, it annoyed customers to have empty shelves in the glove area for the past year. I stopped several times just to look for gloves because you could never get an employee to tell you which stores might have something in stock. I noticed about six months ago when the HF nitrile gloves were nowhere to be found, they were being sold on Amazon (identical HF box) at inflated prices, so I gave up looking at their stores for them. Now I see on their website that gloves are coming back in stock, but at 3X the price.

I have a nearby HF store, but with their jacked up prices and no loss leader coupons, I can't think of a good reason to pay them a visit. Then again, I won't be a big loss to them with my one box of nitrile gloves/year purchase.:3gears:

I do not give my phone number to retail stores. Ever.

They may say that they'll not spam or contact me, but that's only applicable A) so far as the cashier knows, and B) until they change their privacy policy. It also doesn't stop them from giving or selling their phone number lists to marketers. Even if they refused to give or sell the lists, corporate security is as we know often porous. Look at the AmEx or Experian hacks, for instance, and know that those are huge financial institutions with tons of resources dedicated to security.
...

They've more or less lost me as a customer with their policy changes, and they won't get me to give them my phone number anyway so that avenue is not open either.

Just FYI. Unless you:

1. Don't have any utilities (power, gas, cell phone, old-geezer phone aka. landline)
2. Don't have any line of credit (mortgage, car payment, boat payment, a credit card, business loan)
3. Don't have a bank account
4. Don't have Internet at your home
5. Don't use social media (Garage Journal is social media)
6. Don't have a newspaper or magazine subscription
7. Don't have any loyalty cards from a grocery store, Sears, Ace Hardware etc.)
8. Have never ever bought anything online
9. Have never surfed the web from an Internet connection registered in your name
10. Have never used an email account

YOUR FULL INFORMATION IS OUT THERE FOR SALE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER.

Have a good a day and I hope you sleep well knowing that.

Unless you order something that isn't in stock, they don't call you ever. So what I've done in the past (until I ordered a toolbox) was take my cell phone number and add one digit to the last number. I actually do that for all stores/websites/whatever. Makes it easy to remember for receipt purposes, and you don't have to worry about the spam.

That's the same thing I do. I also do it with birth date requests.

The point isn't necessarily to create an impenetrable screen of privacy; that's virtually impossible. The point is to make it *harder* for spammers and casual bad actors to get that data. There's a huge area between "no privacy" and "all the privacy," and by not giving out my phone number I take another step away from the former.

But yes, I'm aware that my phone number is out there and has been purchased. How do I know this? Well, how many ******* spam texts do I have to blocklist every week from house flippers wanting to buy my property? Thank you, ****** County Assessor.

Yes, that area is about as big as between being a little pregnant and lot pregnant. In either case, the horse has left the barn. :)

Going back to the topic of the thread, are there any hex shank drill bit set coupons left? I am not seeing any value in buying cheap consumables from HF without coupons. Menards is cheaper for those things now.

Google Voice gives you a free phone number. I've had one for at least 10 years now. If/when I have to provide a phone number, that is what I give out to places like doctors offices, banks, utility companies, etc. If you want, you can even forward the calls and/or text messages to another number. There are a lot of spam calls and text messages but Google does an awesome job of filtering them all out.

I'm thinking about doing a 44" USG box, or adding a 14.5" addition to my current box from HF. What's my best method for finding the best deal possible on it? Will they do a big memorial day sale typically?

Get ITC and wait for a 20% off coupon with no exclusions.

I believe they have a sale going on now called the spring black friday sale and 44 inch boxes are in it.

How do you find out if the boxes are on sale without an ITC membership?
I’d join for the right price, but...

Can’t tell online.

The 44" is $449 this weekend. The lowest I've seen it (and bought it) was $399 on Black Friday upon the release of the Series 2 boxes. $449 is only 50 bucks over that so I think that's pretty much rock bottom these days. Look around, the cheapest time to buy is now. Nothing is getting less expensive anytime in the near future.

Even if you did get a 20% off coupon from the ITC membership you'd save $100 off the $499 regular price bringing it down to $399, but you'd spend $30.00 for the coupon (if it ever comes, which it probably won't) So in essence you're looking at $20 over the lowest price to walk in this afternoon and buy it today.

I got mine for $400 just last month. My ITC membership more than paid for itself with the first 30% off items under $20.

I see lots of coupons for individual items, but nothing like a 20% off coupon. So I guess in the club, you just have to wait for the item you want, to go on sale?

Man, that kind of *****.
I think I will miss the 20% off coupons for anybody, anytime, able to be used on [almost] anything.

It's too bad they eliminated the 20% off coupons, and the free item with purchase coupons. From now on, I'll be stopping at Home Depot, or one of the other home supply stores first.

The only time I shop there is with a 20% coupon with the 30% I buy big item.. No coupons no shopping at HF and I don’t think I am the only one..

Yup same here. I haven't been back there since the 20% coupons went ****. Well they actually had a 30% off $10 & under coupon after that I did go there for but that was the last time I bought anything.

The free item coupons I never cared about but no more percent coupons, no more shopping there for me. Without them their prices aren't really cheap/worth it IMO. It's a shame cause I liked HF.

I'm not going to buy the ITC membership, not worth it for me, I don't shop there enough. I'm not gonna pay for a membership & wait around for the item I want to go on sale.... if it even goes on sale.

Everytime I get one of their emails & it says Deals Without The Hassle of Coupons I laugh, yeah right what a joke. I'm not sure why I'm even subscribed anymore.

Luckily I have probably 20 of their free tape measures and probably double of that in the free LED flashlights. They are rare items now and you gotta pay for them. Saw someone on craigslist selling the free LED lights for $0.50 each or buy 10 for $4.00 same with tape measures. $0.75 each of 5 for $2.50 wish I could go back in time and stock up even more everytime I drove by one. haha

And that's why no one gets them now.

I got a one or two tape measures and realized how ****** they were and decided them them cracking my knuckles or cutting me with the squirrely retraction of the thin flimsy tape wasn't worth even having them around in the kitchen junk drawer. I then started getting the free screwdrivers and giving them to customers as a gift. Aas I'm concerned the best freebee they gave sometimes was the magnetic parts dishes and the 18" magmatic tool holder. The 18" tool holder are where many of my impact sockets reside.

Anyone wandering about HF’s lack of coupons and slow pre-sale fulfillment should read this article describing the current state of imports in the US. The Trans Pacific route is fully saturated and sold out through the next couple of months. Importing is getting a lot more expensive as the pressure wave from COVID disruptions continues to ripple out.

I have 1 of the magnetic parts dishes on my tool cart lid to hold single screw driver bits and 2 of the magnetic tool holders screwed to the lid of my tool cart to hold screw drivers or random bolts I don't want to drop and lose.

Also I got a portaband today at HBF and it was normally $130 but with the ITC Membership it was $90 so it saved me $10 or so to sign up for that. I knew there would be a discount on something that would pay for it that I wanted soon.

Anybody know when welders might go on sale next? I have my eye on the EasyFlux 125 for some summer projects.

Not sure But I am going to get one of these as well. Used one this weekend off a generator in the desert to fix a truck. Couldn't have done it without a welder and the size and power on this was awesome.

Anyone have any coupons for the 5-drawer cart, or know when they’ll be back on sale? I’ve searched hfqdb and of course, it looks like they were on sale a month ago.

Had I known then, that I’d need one for a specific application, I would have snagged one then.

They were on sale last month on Inside Track Club pricing of $160 or so. which would have paid for itself in money saved right there.

Yeah, I know, as I discovered that about a day or so ago. I literally got a call about 24 hours ago that this particular customer approved a bid I submitted, that I wasn’t expecting to be awarded, and it will require one. Customer called yesterday evening and wants this project completed in a few days, and this cart will be perfect for the tooling and hand tools it requires.

It was this morning that I realized I haven’t physically been in a Harbor Freight since about the first week of January. And even then, it was for less than five minutes. Prior to that, I’ve only been in there twice since March of last year. Didn’t even know anything about the whole 20% coupon issue (yes, I know... these don’t apply to the tool cart).

I had an ITC membership for a year once, but it never really did anything for me. It always seemed like everything that was discounted, wasn’t ever anything I needed. I know it’s hard to imagine, but after thirty+ years, there’s only so much stuff you don’t already have.
