I know harbor freight is ****... I bought this air drier last week and it started leaking from the clear plastic cap on the top. I tried replacing the o ring which did nothing. Also looked closely at the plastic and it’s not cracked, in fact when it starts to leak you can see the o ring deform and blow out, even a new one. I am not sure what the red nub inside does but I am wondering if others have had this problem and how you fixed it? Can I just cap off the top with a bolt and some Teflon tape?

If you bought it a week ago, take it back and exchange it. If the new one does the same thing, take it back for a refund, and try a different brand.

No point in trying to repair a factory defect when the purchase time is this recent.

I cannot argue with your logic but the nearest HF is a 30 minute drive and I am willing to bet the next one will fail also. If I can fix\make better I’d rather go that route.

In those circumstances, just return it. Youtube is full of "how I modified my HF *** to make it work". Read the HF reviews or do a search for the item online. Somebody may have found a fix or done a video where they dealt with the problem. Thanks for the heads up. I will pass on that one.

I believe that it is 3/8 pipe fitting it may be 1/4. I just put in a brass cap I cracked 2 of them before I "fixed" it. I only use it when I'm painting and leave the pellets "full" otherwise. To dry them out just pop them in the microwave for 20 seconds wrapped in a paper towel. It is a decent separator for what it is especially when you use a 20 or 25% cupon.
