I have been out of the loop and just noticed that they discontinued the 44in normal series and replaced it with the double.

All my local stores have already sold the old display top tool chest and have none of the shorter versions in stock.

I really need a top chest now.

Two questions.
1. Thinking of buying the double top chest and making an adapter plate to bolt it to the top of my 44in old box. It actually works out because my toolbox is about 4in away from the wall due to the concrete ledge in the wall. Sound like a good idea?

2. Does the old top chest have 2 slides on each side of the deep bottom drawer? The new one does not.

edit:
Just saw this on the harbor freight website

You would only really need a piece of ply laid in top of your current 18" deep cabinet to allow new 22" top chest lay over it .
Could build a slide out counter top bit like the pic too .
As far as I recall old top chest was single slides on all drawers inc deep .

Yes, and no.

I actually have a pic on my phone showing the double slides on the display. However, I have also been in other stores where the displays only had single slides. I guess it depends on which day they were making them. :headscrat

I am in the same boat as you but I've decided the better route than overpaying for an old top or fabricobbling some adapter I am just going to hold out for a 68-72" with proper drawer latches and one or two wide short drawers to go with the deep one.

don't surprise me as had 2 part numbers thus 2 suppliers and due to time it been in production few changes at times quite likely even from a single manufacture source.

Is that slide out table home made or sold commercially. What's the source of that?

Yah my box is single slides even on deep drawers, but they're pretty beefy slides in my opinion. Would be nice to find a box with double slides tho if available, that would be nice but probably not needed, you cant fit THAT much in those drawers.

Why does it even have to be Harbor Freight? I'm certain you can find a top chest that will fit on your current bottom chest easily enough. Husky or Kobalt comes to mind for similar price points as HF and pretty much the same quality. Paint might not match, but really at the end of the day or a spray can away what difference does it make?

Why would you ever want that? You've basically made nearly all of the bottom drawers inaccessible as soon as you use that.

Makes for a nice temporary work table. I could think of a dozen uses. Is this available commercially from HF or is it home made?

Menard's has a box with a slide out table built in. I forget the model number.
