Hello All,

If this has been covered before, I apologize in advance.

Anyone else running into issues with the Harbor Freight drawer liners marring the finish on tools via some sort of chemical reaction?

I noticed that it had eaten away the coating on the handles of my Craftsman ball pein hammers where they were in direct contact with the liner. You can see the little squares where the coating is missing now.

I added the paper towel in the drawer after I found the problem.

Any woodworkers know what the handles were originally dipped in and can the finish be reapplied?

Thanks,
Chris

I've had the cross pattern holed grip liner react with tools even leaving tarnishing on the chrome.
I think mainly as was old as was good branded product but I changed liner asap and not had issue since. don't go cheap on liner as can cause lot of issues .

My 44" box liners that came in it Hans effected anything and my box is beyond crammed what liners you talking about the original foam or the perforated kind you can buy?
I spray all my tools down with wd40 or Lucas toolbox buddy to protect all my tools and the liners do get soaked with oil even that hasn't effected anything.

Perhaps a Nitro Lacquer product they react with rubbers and some other chemistries...
I have used a product in the past that was used as a Gym Floor finish which was quite durable on my hammer handles My dad used Clear Epoxy for a finish on his hammers, I still have a bunch of them with that finish applied. my toolbox has Harbor Freight "Web" liners and I have had no such issues with my hammers or any other tool in my toolbox for that matter. HATE them for a variety of other reasons though. Really just want some tool foam in there. that doesn't slide around in the drawer... I don't mean shadowed, just a solid liner that is a bit more rigid that won't bunch up and slide when I close the drawer... My screwdrivers almost always end up grouped in the very back of their drawer...

Not only do HF liners mark up the tools, they stink up the toolbox worse than acetate handled screwdrivers.
