They have this electric pole saw on sale for $60 at Harbor Freight right now, and I am considering buying one. I have several dead/dying ash trees in my back yard, and this would be handy for cutting a lot of branches off of those trees.

Has anyone purchased and used this saw? Is it a good quality tool, or something that will die the first day you use it? All reviews from experienced users are welcome. I did look at the reviews on the HF website and they appear to be very positive. Thanks.

I have their battery powered one and have had no issues with it. Works great, just leaks some bar oil. Which I think any cheap electric polesaws will have.

I've had the powered cord version for about 10 yrs. perfectly adequate for reaching lower branches. never had an issue with it. add bar oil or light engine oil (30w), either will do.
used it on my friends 4 acre property to trim the perimeter growth where birds sht seeds while sitting on fences and then the trees start to grow. not a problem.

I cut down and cut up a tree with it 3-4 years ago. Still works fine. I would recommend it with the caveat that i have no experience with them outside of this one, and its HF.

I have (had) the saw you have pictured....It works great
I even bought 2 replacement blades from Amazon
I used it to trim some low handing limbs around my shop with no issues
My oldest son "borrowed" it and I haven't seen it since :lol_hitti

Buy it.....

Another vouch for this saw. I ended up eventually upgrading to a DeWalt cordless saw. But for the money that harbor freight one hard to beat. It did everything I needed it to. Just remember to keep the chain sharp if you use it a ton as with any chainsaw

I have one of these. I bought it last summer to trim some branches. I was very surprised at how well it works. This saw is a RIPPER.

Another satisfied customer of this saw. Like others have said the only downside is some bar oil that leaks out of it but other wise i've been happy with it.

I agree, it does leak bar oil....

But so does my Stihl MS250 chain saw that I bought new and have only used for a total of about 15 minutes. lol.

I think all chain saws probably leak bar oil to some extent.

I went up to the local Harbor Freight yesterday with cash in my pocket to buy one of those pole saws.
A woman in a "Harbor Freight" shirt was carrying one up to the cash register.
I said "I want one of those. Is that the one that's on sale for $64.88?"
"Yes, with the coupon," she said.
"Where do I get the coupon?" I asked.
"Online!" she snapped.

I walked out.

When I got home, I called up to the store and asked to talk to a manager. Pretty much got blown off. He told me "corporate" doesn't provide the "coupons" anymore, and they're not allowed to print them at the store.
Called their "Customer Service Line" and listened to obnoxious "on hold" music until the phone lines shut down at 6:00 pm PDT.

Called this morning, waited on hold for 29 minutes, finally got connected to a girl whose English was so bad I had to ask her NINE TIMES to spell her name before I knew who I was talking to.
Pretty much got the same response from there.

I guess the bottom line is, they just don't need my business that bad. I don't jump through hoops for anybody. I don't print "coupons".
You don't get my email addy. You don't get my contact info. Full stop.

I'm sure Ron Jones Power Equipment will be happy to take my money.

So what I'm hearing is you're not willing to provide your contact information to the company, but you're upset you can't use the coupon? What incentive would a retailer have for giving you coupons if not in exchange for your contact information? Coupons are how they gauge who their advertising is reaching, they're not just handing out discounts out of the goodness of their hearts.

Also, it sounds like you were given exactly the information you needed every time you asked. When you asked where to get the coupon you were told to go online but instead you "walked out", went home and called the store manager? Then when he told you the company's (perfectly reasonable) policy about coupons you considered that to be "blown off"?

Then, despite being someone who doesn't "jump through hoops for anybody" you called and waited on a customer service line not once, but twice just to be given the same information?

What did you hope would happen? That someone would just give in and give you the coupon price in exchange for raising such fuss? Is your name Karen by chance?

Still a pretty good saw, even if you just splurged for the extra five bucks.

We know, it's the principle........

People sure do make life tough for themselves - all you had to do was find it on your phone and she would have taken it. They quit printing coupons what, a couple years ago? So for $5 you'll spend over $100 somewhere else?

At any rate, I also bought one of these saws and have used it for well over 10 years. My only issue is the nut that locks the pole extended broke. I took it off the pole and just use it by hand now, but the saw part still rips!

Thanks, guys!

I'll keep that in mind when I get a cellular phone. ;)

I don't use ATMs or pay at the pump either. No PIN number either. Or GPS. Still manage to get by just fine and don't have these issues with any other retailers.

Do feel free to make me wrong about my own personal life choices. I'm all ears, gentlemen.

I guess my expectation of a reasonable modicum of common courtesy was just too much. When I begin punching a cash register in 1963 I was taught to be polite to the customers.

C'est la vie. I'll see what they have out at Ron Jones or down at Agri-Shop.

You’re angry because they were unwilling or unable to violate their corporate policy to accommodate your rather meager need, yet turn around and stress the importance of “taking the high road” :headscrat:

Fwiw I believe all HF electronic “coupons “ often have unique numbers on them so they can’t just pick up and scan any paper coupon like they did in the old days.

Many enjoy shopping there and get good service so hopefully the Company will survive without your business

Who's angry?
Listen... guys... I appreciate that you're willing and able to jump through the hoops that retailers want you to jump through.
I am not. It really is that simple.
I've been doing business a hell of a lot longer than Harbor Freight has, and I'll continue to do business the way I always have. Nothing is going to change that.

The store near me has notebooks with the coupons laminated that cashiers use to scan the codes with. Often I will walk up to the check out with an item and they will flip through the book when they know there is a coupon. Worth a try next time.

Lets put this back on track

I bought one of these pole saws from Harbor Freight. It works extremely well. Lots of good reviews

They had a sale a month or so back for $49.00 so I bought another one. Had it shipped to my house. Cheaper than running around for it with gas being so high. Total price was $60.00 or so with tax and shipping.

I figure the chain and bar would be about half that $20 to 25 if I had to buy a replacement.

I have 2 chain saws with an Echo CS4910 being my latest so I am familiar with cutting things down. I would buy again

Good luck!!

I just used the pole saw for the first time today, and first impressions are excellent! I cut just about every dead branch in my back yard with it, and even cut down a small tree with it. No issues at all. It rips!

I've had a couple of different ones of these. They need diligent maintenance (cleaning, oil & adjusting), otherwise they wear out (or break) fast. Also, keep the blade sharp and don't overload the motor.

Got one back during the "Coupon Discussion" phase of this thread. Works great, beats getting on a ladder to reach, and much easier than my manual pole saw. Undercut the bottom of the branch so the blade doesn't bind and it works every time.

I bought one 4-5 years ago and it has been flawless! Oregon bar and quality chain when I bought it. If it is still the same you can't go wrong for the price.

Your unceasing quest to pinch a penny is exactly why stores like HF exist and stores that invest in paying good people well and to be informed to sell good products, are on the decline. Hope you found your coupon.

When was working in retail ever a good paying job? seems like everyone I know ever worked and they’re just struggling to make ends meet

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago with the $49.99 coupon and it works great. What are you that have one doing to keep the hex screwdriver for the bar with the saw? I don't want to have to remember where I put it.
