i wouldnt be suprised if people are just getting fed up paying $40 or more for an item that is basically a peice of metal on a stick to beat stuff with - even more so when they just get used to demo old work. especially now that places like home depot are carrying titanium stiletto hammers on the shelf, and these things use to basically be a consumable item for alot of people in the past.

THAT - combined with HF stepping up quailty on alot of their items invite more people to shop in stores, and grab cheaper things that they know will get used, but dont care if it gets lost or broken at home or at work. usually hammers can get real ****** real fast - and sometimes it just nice to get a new one when the cost is acceptable.

Eh, I doubt it is the first reason, nice hammers can be found a hammer throw away for $15-$20 pretty much any where. Home depot's got estwings, the metal husky ones. Walmart's got the stanley one with the yellow estwing type handle, stanley antivibes and some Vaughn framers. Lowes got the bostich ones that are estwing like, antivibes, mine has a vaughn stealth/prybar combo for a few bucks more than $20. Sears has the vaughn made craftsman ones, and a lot of different vaughn models like framers, stealths and regular hammers. A nice hammer can be found pretty much anywhere you look. I agree that hf is stepping up but those hammers still look like **** to me.

I think you nailed it. This seems to be popular on Pinterest and Etsy as a Father's Day gift idea this year. That would explain why it is only the wooden handles.

Gotta be it. There's a ton of engraved Pittsburgh, HDX, etc. Hammers on Etsy. $20 - $40 each..... engraving must cost a lot!

1foxracing, I'm going to hazard a guess and say they're not THAT curious. Thanks for the tip, though!

I would be curious to know if sales of these hammers slow down after fathers day. If the crafting idea takes off with them I have a laser cutter/engraver and vinyl decal printer. If people are really getting $40 for these with a little script added it seems like easy money.

Some chemist has figured out how to make meth from the chemicals used to coat the hammer handles
