If you don't care about COO, my local NAPA has there Homak boxes on sale for about the same prices the HF boxes. I have been impressed by those boxes....somthing I can't say about the HF boxes.

Too funny! Better to buy that truck box on credit so you can pay interest while it depreciates big time. :lol_hitti

FWIW, I have the HF 26 inch combo box and the 5-drawer cart, both are well made and strong. Total investment ~$465 out the door. As noted on the HF site, the casters on the 26 are cheapish (plastic wheels) but that won't matter for me since I do not have the need to roll the box anywhere once it is placed and loaded. The 5-drawer has better casters, understandable as a tool cart needs to be able to log some miles. As mentioned, the 56 and 44 boxes have the advantage of providing horizontal work surface. All good stuff, take your pick.

So the HF boxes you got only cost $265 more than the 2 Lista cabinets I bought, $300 ~ $400 more than many Snap-On, MAC, Matco, Kennedy, Cornwell boxes I've bought. Maybe if I could afford a HF box I'd give them some consideration but I'm not made of money so I have to settle for what I can afford. Also all the display ones I've seen are broken, not sure if that's a good thing.

Best to avoid the HF box, not much of a box and it will only depreciate. Better to find a quality USA made toolbox used and you won't have to rip off the name plate and/or put a truck brand emblem on it.

funny, mine has held up just fine. it's a quality piece like it or not.

you seem to be the exception here. seems only you can buy truck boxes for cheap, you must have a different craigslist and classified section than the rest of us. so,mac, matco boxes do not show up cheap here.

Not at all there are plenty here that put in a little effort and were rewarded with great deals on quality USA made toolboxes that will last a lifetime and can be sold for a nice profit.

At the time I bought my HF 44" roller, the BEST deal I could find on a used truck brand box was a KR555 with fire damage for $350.

I went ahead and took the drive to HF, bought it and have never had a problem with it or it's 4 drawer cart counterpart.

I did pull the US General badges, but not out of shame - I did so because they are horribly ugly. On the cart there is a Ford tailgate emblem occupying the former home of the cheesy OEM badge, and the 44" box has a 289 fender emblem in it's place.

My boxes still have their OEM badges, but I do plan on pulling them because they're both stuck on crocked; damn HF quality! I de-badged my old c-man boxes back in the day because I couldn't stand the cheap plastic logo of the late 80's. I've got a blue oval or two lying around for these boxes.

I actually like having several smaller chests rather than one large one. I have more flexibility in terms of where I put them and I find it easier to remember where stuff is... (The old Snap-On is all SAE, the Husky is all metric, plus screwdrivers and hammers).

I have the same quirk. I don't know why the location of tools is easier to remember when they are spread out over several boxes instead of one big one but it is sure the truth. Plus it makes your garage look cooler to have all sorts of top and intermediate chests strewn about the place. :D

I HATE buying china stuff, but I searched and searched for a used truck brand box and came up short. I would rather but a USA made ANYTHING before this but I dont have the time to search for 3 months drive around and spend $600 more on something that is not used PROFESSIONALLY. I decided on the HF 44" I have filled this thing up and it holds up great staying in place not being moved. I will post some current pictures tomorrow. I turn wrenches at work and some at home. I maybe spend 5 hours a week in the garage. This is my home box.

They loaded it with a forklift into my truck and I managed to get it out by myself VERY carefully sliding it down at an angle. A 56 box might be worth renting a trailer for $30.00 from uhaul damage to ANY box is worth $30.00

Very nice! That's a really slick looking box. I've got the older wrinkle finish. BTW, I've never seen 90 degree tin snips like that, seems kind of unusual for a home box. Special application for HVAC maybe?

Quite frankly, my wife saved the day. She said I was way too cheap in life and deserved to spend some money on myself for a change. I ended up paying just over $2K off the truck (3 months old). I also love the color scheme since it matches my college team! How did I do on price?
