Became a member of the "Inside Track" today for Harbor Freight.

I got a $129.99 regularly priced 3 Ton Floor jack for 69.99 and a phneumatic screw driver 50% of for $9.99. Not sure what I'll need the screw driver for, but I had never seen an "air screwdriver" before, so figure it will be a neat gift for my father this weekend. He loves tools, lol.

Is anyone else a member of "Inside Track" and have you gotten any good deals?

Pete

as far as i can tell the "deals" are the same as coupons that make the rounds. The only real advantage i've read of is day early sale prices but i dont even think thats done more than a couple times a year. Honestly i dont see any value in it at all and i think it should be free, or at least free with a minimum purchase of, say, $100.

I'm not too familiar with it yet, but I figure the following;

The "inside track" cost $30 for the year. They gave me a $10 gift card for signing up and let me take advantage of "inside track" deals instantly.

I figure after considering the membership fee and the gift card, I'm a head of the game by $40, plus another $10 on the screwdriver.

for being an side track member, any deals on the 42" top tool chest?

That's the only "deal" I've ever seen in the ITC...and it was last listed at 249. Other than that, as the others have said, all the "deals" usually come about on the regular sales circuit at some point.

I never understood the marketing concept, of having to "pay for discounts". Barnes and Nobles does the same thing. There are enough random coupons out for HF that makes the Inside Track membership obsolete, IMHO.

I think some stuff at HF is okay.

I got a free membership when I bought my toolbox. So far, nothing has blown me away, and the few times I wanted to use it was on something like casters where I wanted 4, and the coupon (online at least) was only good for one item. Probably would work better if there was an HF nearby...

From what I have seen, the coupons are a little lower then the normal super coupons. Some items are only $1-2 cheaper, but then you have the top for the 41" chest, that was a killer deal and worth the price alone.

I joined near the end of May, but have been watching the monthly coupons since March. There are some better deals through ITC, and some become regular "Super Coupons" the following month. Some aren't that great that all, but I'll easily get my $20 savings out of it.

Yea, it just depends. If you plan on buying several big ticket items each year, then I'm sure you can make up the savings. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Its also pretty cool for stocking up on little odds and ends for long term use, ie; I ordered a 308 Piece Electrical connector kit for $4.99 with the "inside track" price, which is usually $14.99 (although its on the website for everyone on sale for $9.99). Still save 5 bucks, plus I found some other similar items between 30-60% off that are worth getting now to have in the garage for when needed.

Per my first post, I already have my money back with regards to membership costs. We have a local Harbor Freight and I love that place! lol

Chewy - I just looked at the inside track flier they emailed me and I don't see the tool chest on there. I'm not 100% familiar on where else to look for the membership deals.

Does anyone else know if there are other deals or just the one's in the flier?

I havent seen any better than $399 for it. Read the fine print of my 20% off coupons from magazines and toolboxes are excluded. Meh

Chewy, I think the top chest was in the flyer last month if you go in the store they might honor that price if you sign up. They make a pretty big deal to get people to sign up. I think as long as you shop with the flyer you can easily make up the membership cost and much much more.

There would need to be a deal on some big item I wanted, otherwise I am pretty much shopped out at HF except for the odd sale or clearance item.

Can you review that floor jack? I need something to tide me over until I can find an old Blackhawk, walker or other old school US made jack on craigslist and this would be right in my price range for somethnig that might only get used a few times. How long is the handle? Any other thoughts on the jack?

They sucked me in a few years ago. In the entire year there was not one single tyhing I wanted that was less than the ordinary mailer price and often it was more. Unless you know of a specific item (toolchest) save your money.

I haven't taken it out of the box yet. If I get time this weekend, I'll check it out and let you know.

I went ahead and got it. $94 out the door for the jack and the ITC memebrship. That's less than the jack is on sale for currently. Just need something to use a few times a year. And since I haen't found and old walker or blackhawk that isn't 5+ hours away yet I need something. :)

I used a few ITC coupons in the Mansfield, Ohio store Thursday, and the cashier said she needed to verify my ITC membership. I started to pull out my card, but she scanned my ITC flyer barcode instead. She also cut the 20% coupon out of my other flyer - I woulda been pissed if there were coupons on the back I wanted to use later.

Like many have said, I do not think the savings as a club member out ways the cost of the membership unless you are the guy on this site that bought all HF tools like shown in his thread including the box. It was very impressive though to have seen that thread.

They did have a special last week to sign up and I was tempted.....

If you need to think about it and you're realizing that you're breaking even, something close to breaking even or not sure if it's a good deal then it probably isn't a good deal and you're better off saving your money.

i questioned about getting ITC for several months while monitoring the ITC coupons (found a link to them on slickdeals). at first, i didn't see anything i really wanted except one or two single items (the composite ratchets). and in those cases, i printed out the ITC coupon and bought them at the store; the cashier asked for my membership card and I just told him I forgot it and he scanned it anyway.

then last month, there was a handful of ITC coupons for items I actually have been waiting for a good price on, so I decided to join for $20. the deals I got were good enough that I actually was able to resell some of the stuff at profit to cover my membership cost and more. now i've been offering all my friends who like tools to use my ITC if they see something they want with the ITC coupons; i figure I might as well maximize the use of the membership now that I have it.

Signed up for the ITC yesterday and bought some stuff, my cards already paid off. I purchased a hex ket set for $10.99 instead of $17.99 and purchased a couple sets of the 3 pc metric and standard socket holders for $4.99 instead of $9.99.

congrats. it'll start paying off even more when you find a bigger ticket item with the ITC coupons. new coupons for Aug should be out in a week or two...

I joined today... $20, a $10 gift card, and the socket holders for $5 instead of $10. I was buying 4 (2 metric, 2 SAE), so I saved enough to cover it all today.

Yeah I might buy 2 more since it's cheap and useful. I got their free led flash light today and I think that's the best free item next to their tape measure. Been at harbor freight for the past 7 days, always coming out a happy camper. Except for their new 2 ton low profile floor jack. I'll try to review it later...not too happy with any of their jacks
