Anyone priced the harbor freight superduty floor jack lately. When it went up to 229 i thought about waiting to see if it goes back down to 199 to buy another one and saw today it is up to 269. Do you think in a year or so when supply hopefully catches up we will see prices drop back down.

I've seen fewer sales from them lately and then only 10% off. Maybe they'll have one on Black Friday. Once in a great while they'll have a sale specifically on floor jacks. I waited several months catch a sale on mine. Prices are going up for everything. Inflation is running around 5% this year so far.

Unless the Global economy tanks, I don’t see the prices of most consumer goods going down much, if at all.

Firstly, if I need a floor jack I just buy one.

Who knows, maybe next year will be $300? Still a bargain compared to American cousin snap on at $900 dollars

The chances of that approach 0%.

I'd just get it - it's a great jack.

I have one already and just wanted a second since it was working so well. So i dont really need one. I was just wondering if people think prices will drop once the shipping/supply issues start getting resolved. Or do you think due to inflation these are the new normal prices to see for things

Harbor Freight has pretty much moved away from coupons in favor of their "inside track" program where you have to pay a membership fee in order to get their coupons.

Harbor Freight is dead to me at this point. Without coupons, the thrill of the hunt for good deals is gone and so am I . . .

New normal - for a lot of reasons.

I always liked having two jacks too. I considered getting another one to match mine, but decided to get a QuickJack instead. The QJ + my yellow Daytona has been a fantastic pair. I also added a set of ramps, too.

I've been looking at getting one of the Harbor Freight jacks too, I have an old Craftsman one that works well, but I'd like something newer and keep that as a backup. Also noticed the prices creeping up. Will probably wait for a sale.

I think they are making a conscious effort to stop everyone discounting every price by 20% and waiting for the coupon - makes lots of things hard. The recent disruptions have only given them more incentive, so they're trying to break the addiction.

HF has obviously ditched their 'in store coupon' business model. HF is now all about e-mail coupons and memberships. And that's fine by me. I don't do e-mail coupons and/or HF's membership gig. Imo, both are more about gaining your mailing address (and selling it off) then anything else.

I have looked at those also. I found home depot and costco have a combo with the truck risers and hangers on sale regularly

A $70 increase on a $200 item is a little more than “creeping up”, that’s exploding in pricing!

I bought mine through Costco. They're a very good solution. Not better than a lift, but way better than jacks and stands.

A number of HF things went up recently. The 20-Ton press went up by $30. Though they've not been available in the Kentuckiana area for quite some time.

I just posted this a week ago. I held off buying one because I was looking at Arcans and when I finally went to buy one the price was $30 higher than the week before. I was a little pissed. In the end I got the Inside Track membership for $30 and the jack was on sale for $209 so it wound up being the same price. Hopefull over the next year I'll find some other stuff that I need so I wont feel totally screwed. LOL

HF is phasing out all their Central Machinery, Central Pneumatic, house brand stuff an opting for their new house brands (Bauer/ Hurcules/ Ect) which are often nicer "looking" but the same overall quality (sometime worse quality) but just at a higher price point.

HF really picked up on the Goldilocks model: Good-Better-Best

They are really just evolving as a company. Which is sad when you move further and further away from the core business model and customer base that made you successful in the first place.

My (rant) .02 cents

The owner likely found out it's under $300 to trademark a name, thus a brand name for every HF product line. My boss went through that phase for a while. Would come in Monday morning with a list of names and clever phrases he wanted trademarked.

Less we forget, when Harbor freight prices were dirt cheap everybody else’s tool prices were pretty reasonable.

No longer the case.

for the most part there’s really no one greatly under cutting Harbor freight‘s prices so they will be fine IMO

My solution has been to NOT PURCHASE some of the things that "want" would have driven me to "buy" a couple years ago. Now I'm being more critical about where my dollars go, because I have only so many available to spend.

I know we HF shoppers are spoiled and entitled, but $200 for a nice floor jack, is still a pretty nice price, IMO

If people are buying the jack at $269 and HF is selling the projected amount, the price probably won't go back down. At least not back to $199. Jacks aren't an impulse buy item. You either need one or you don't, and when needed, I doubt there is much shopping around for the best deal.

I doubt HF is pocketing more profit, they are just adjusting due to increasing material cost. Steel is 200% what it was 8 months ago (stateside). A company can only eat that cost for so long before something has to give.

I agree, don't think they will come back down anytime soon. Cost for steel has gone up, shipping is super expensive. I was surprised they popped the price that high - glad I finally got my candy apple one on the last jack coupon, even though it was only 10%. Sold my old HF jack on FB for $60, so it was a good deal for me.

If you need it this year, I doubt you will see a price much better than the ITC deal they had (not sure how long it is for, I don't have ITC).

If I ever get the garage cleaned out properly I might pick up a low profile long reach as well to supplement, but not a huge issue for me right now.

Hyper inflation. I noticed the prices of items in Costco went up substantially. For example, a bag of bacon had been $9.99 since forever, now it's $16.99.

Once prices go up, the stay up.

I'm pushing 65 yo and for the last number of years I've switched from 'want' to 'need' when it comes to buying things. Tools are still somewhere in between tho (hey this is the Garage Journal right?).

LOL, yep, I don't think I've ever idly bought a floor jack at my leisure.

It's always "dogDAMMIT my jack is leaking/sinking/bent/exploded/stolen/missing, etc."

So I go buy one because I need to get something done and I don't have time to fart around.

plus now a days people are getting even more greedier and they will not lower the prices back down where they use to be.. they will raise up30-40% and we will compalin but then drop it 10% and most people will think hey look lower price people will be happy and it cycle starts over.

All harbor freight needs to do is be cheaper than anybody else which they still are. They are not a charity. Eric doesn't live in a palace because he's stupid.
Eh, their new "Pierce" trim nailer is $150. I can get a Makita for $120 or a Hitachi for $105.

I think their new strategy is to milk the people that assume their the cheapest for all their worth.

I agree. For the price of "high end" harbor freight tools, you can usually buy name brand tools for the same or less money when on sale. And a real name brand tool will last you a lifetime with typical homeowner usage.
I bought a pierce framing nailer when building my shed. The pierce nailer worked great at the beginning of the job, but was clearly losing power by the end of the job though I oiled it every day before using with hf brand oil. I consider it an expensive lesson to not waste money on "high end" hf tools. The one exception of course being other the snap-on rebranded floor jack.
