3T vs 6T for a Civic...
3T = 6000 pounds
6T = 12,000 pounds.

What year is your Civic? And how much does it weigh? Less than 3000 pounds even for a 2017. So one stand can hold up two civics... If you don't need the thing way up in the air for major work, 3T'ers have a significant weight safety margin.

the reason i buy 6ton stands is bc i dont need to expend them. if any. maybe a notch or 2 which makes the car alot more stable and the wider stand foot print. its never been a weight issue.

It's not the weight rating so much as the height. 3 Ton stands tend to max out at about 15"-17" which just isn't that high when you're trying to work under the car. 6 Ton stands start at about 15" and go up to 25" or so. The 6 ton stands also have significantly larger bases, making them more stable, even for smaller cars.

Guess I'm a skinny ****** cause I rarely need to extend my stands beyond 2 or 3 notches. If I need it way in the air, I won't be using 3T'ers either, as stated originally; "if you don't need the thing way up in the air for major work"...
