i'm not bashing or high-fiveing HF here. I do like to shop there now and than.
i'm just putting this out there.
last weekend a couple buds and I went to the all you can eat breakfast buffet. while filling up and(me) drinking to much coffee. we decided to check out the HF store in the other town away from us.
this HF was about 25 mins from my house. the one im familiar w/ is 35 mins away.
this HF was not as big, but a lot nicer and had a public bathroom!
I was looking at tools and felt that intestinal tug.
so I visited the mens room. I must say it was a nice & clean restroom.
well, while i'm doin' my business I see a plunger by the bowl. I pick it up to get a closer look. I don't recognize the brand.
I finished my business and went back to the showroom.
I went to look at the plungers they had for sale....not the same?!
does HF not trust their own products?

yes, I know i'm just makin' fun.
maybe the store contracts a cleaner or gets a discount from a cleaner supply/service.
I still thought it was funny

I saw them using a Husky step ladder at HF one day and got a laugh out of it. A few months later I noticed Sears had one too!

Nobody trusts their own products! :willy_nil

I actually have some info on this. I was at an HF store and the men's room had a problem. The place was clean, but the drain in the floor was plugged and due to heavy rains in the area, was starting to back up.

I was near the bathroom and the store manager was there at the open door instructing a person to call the maintenance department. HF has a contract with local maintenance and supply- none of the stuff in the bathroom is by HF itself. All of that is brought in by the building maintenance. Manager was complaining that they couldn't even use their own plungers to unclog a toilet, but had to call the service each time instead so they didn't run afoul of the contract.

I'm not surprised to see the same thing happen at a mall store like Sears. Facilities usually have special contracts for such issues.

A closer look? Just what the Hell were you expecting to see?
I hope you were wearing your rubber gloves while making the inspection.:lol_hitti

The rubber from HF plunger stink really bad, so they don't want to stink up the restroom.

I've always been amazed at how cheap plungers are the most expensive one I've ever bought was like $3 plunger companies could easily charge $10-15 and everyone would buy one cause what else are you gonna do?

I've got a 25 year old heavy duty, like an old tire, rubber plunger, and a 6'8" son that won't eat any vegetables, so I've been looking for a GREAT plunger to replace the old one. Trouble is this is an odd niche, industrial users are cheap, pro's won't screw with a plunger long before moving on to a more serious tool like a snake. That said there are a few options around $25, but none that convinced me to buy them.

Restaurant supply places have some interesting ones, shovel D handles, that may be the direction I end up going in.

I hate hf.

It really aggravated me when guys I was working with would bring that trash to the shop and hurt themselves or damage a vehicle because it bracks so easy. Real tools are x rayed for cracks and ping tested for strength. Don't waste your cash on trash.

It doesn't surprise me that they want even use there trash lol

Lol, you must not need it that bad if you are actually taking the time to research toilet plungers.

Harbor Freight saved me from surgery. Not kidding. I left home travelling, after having drank a 24 ounce bottle of Diet Mtn. Dew. I decided to stop at HF on my way and had to tinkle immediately upon my arrival. I was scheduled to have a kidney stone fetched on Tuesday following (this was Sat.). I shot it out into the urinal, thus avoiding a stone-fetching surgery. HF rocks!! :rocker:

My Harbor Freight restroom experience...

Went in to one in a run down part of town about an hour from home one time. Really had to use the restroom. en route I walked past some dude loitering in the clearance section near the restroom. The restroom was nasty and toilet was full of TP and who knows what all else. Didn't flush it because I didn't want to flood the place. Walked out and the creeper headed straight in looking at me the whole time then came right back out a few seconds later. Didn't think much of it and went back to shopping. Then every time after that when I looked up the dude was in the same aisle pretending to be looking at something glancing over at me. Stills gives me the creeps...

My nearest HF you would have had to step over the sleeping homeless guy on the floor to use the toilet. Then be pestered by a meth junkie on your way out. If it was a really good day you would find the wheels and battery still attached to your now ransacked car so you can make a quick escape.

You didn't feel any pain from the out going stone? How big is the stone?

I could post some pictures if you need convincing. ;)

Our ancient plunger still works a little, just doesn't seal well. I just want to be sure whatever I buy to replace it is a clear step up.

while i am not a huge hf fan i am somewhat curious as to exactly what "real" tools are subject to x ray testing before use. i didn't realize this was a common practice. i suppose someone may do it on occasion but i don't recall any mfg ever promoting that their tools have been x rayed for quality control.

i am also very curious about this ping test. could i see some results? the test equipment? maybe a graph or some pie charts.? :drunk: :tard:

Sorry to not get back--I overlooked this.

Anyway, I felt a little sensation, not quite "pain," when the stone left my bladder. I then just had time to think, "Hoo boy, something might be--"

And "tink" the stone hit the porcelain. It hurt a tiny bit when it reached the end of my you-know, but not much. The worst part was having to dive in after it, as it had to be analyzed.

It was 6mm X 4MM X 3mm
