I was in Crystal Lake IL yesterday, so I stopped by there recently opened store! Wow, bright, clean, well labeled, and you can find almost anything without asking!!

I was just purchasing some misc stuff, nothing major. As I was paying for the items, they informed me there is a "Restocking Fee" now for anything that is returned!!! Sounds like they are falling in line with some of other stores in the area these days!

If you want to dodge the fee, just tell them how it wasn't working right, they are used to that and won't charge the fee.

Hm... I always thought of the tools I bought from HF as disposable for the most part, never thought of returning any. Most are priced to the point that if they last for the job I bought them for they paid for themself. I will say that their quality and price has been improving a lot over the past year or so, if they keep it up the tools will have to last longer to pay for themself, but since the quality seems to be going up for most things, I bet they will....

the local (Wichita, KS) HF has been telling their customers ti "Keep your receipt" as they will not refund nor exchange (warranty) any tools without one, no matter the age!

While I agree with 'mayday' any tool that lasts beyond the first project is considered a profit. Just remember, by buying there, you are supporting the Chinese first, the store workers 2nd.

Yep I've been told that as well at the El Cajon, CA store. So, I kept my receipt. Had to exchange a tool about three-weeks after buying it and the receipt had faded to just an off-white piece of paper. Took the tool and now blank receipt in. Got just a little push back but after talking with the manager, it was all straightened out.

It might be a good idea to scan or otherwise copy your receipts as soon as you can because they will fade to nothing.

Won't find to many cheap tools that aren't made in China. Mayday said the quality is improving. Wonder if it has anything to with them hacking our corporations and stealing our info?

If you really want to maintain a typical receipt like HF's, wrap it and put it in the freezer. Seriously. I read that on another board.

I believe they have always had a 90 day return policy, as does the big box stores. Don't have a problem with that. Personally, I think the 90 day period it too long, surprise that hasn't been reduced to something like 30 days, or less!
Now, they are just going to charge a restocking fee for the return. I just wonder if the big box stores will pick-up on this???

Ya, their thermal receipts have always been a problem. The few times I did have to use them for a return or exchange, the local store manager has worked with me! Never heard of putting the receipt in the fridge to maintain the integrity of the receipt! LOL - What a hoot!
Where I've run into problems is with auto parts and warranty on parts. The receipts fade over time. In those cases, I ask for a full page receipt if available!!

You mean buying your corporations and owning your info? The US sold their soul to China a long time ago.

Ducks....I do the same thing. I also takes pics of sku/item numbers at TractorSupply or Lowes, for example, when buying chain or an off item that has nothing on it to scan. I dislike waiting for the cashier to look up a part number for an item in a 3 ring binder and wasting time.

Not sure what it says on a receipt, but here is what it says online.

RETURN POLICY
If for any reason you are not satisfied with any item purchased, you may return the product within 90 days for a full refund or replacement, whichever you prefer. Shipping and handling are non-refundable.

GENERATOR RETURNS*@#$*@#$*@#$ Any generator returned for any reason after the 90 day satisfaction guarantee period will be subject to a 20% restocking charge and must be returned freight paid.

Now I have had a store tell me there was a restocking fee for an air compressor if I used it but wasn't satisfied.

Anybody have what the receipt says?

It doesn't matter what the store says. What matters is what the posted company policy states either online, on the receipt or in the store. If they differ you can argue if it is worth the trouble.
