Harbor Freight online order

I decided to purchase a horizontal band saw and a rolling tool cabinet from Harbor Freight. Since both items are big and heavy, I decided to pay the $30 shipping fee to have them delivered. Big mistake. Both items were delivered by Fed Ex and looked like they had been to hell and back. Both items shipped in the original boxes with no external box or padding. Both the saw and tool were damaged. I contacted Fed Ex and was told they do not handle claims for HF and that I would have to contact them directly. Customer service told me they had to mail me a return Fed Ex shipping label and that I would have to contact Fed Ex to arrange a time to have the items picked up. When HF received the damaged items, they would ship me more. That means I would not have my items for another three weeks at least. Despite my complaining and whining, they would not budge. I decided to call the local HF store and talk to the manager. He said they would exchange the items if I would bring them in, which I did. Why couldn't customer service tell me that!?! I will never purchase anything else from HF online unless small items.

Seems like you had the option for picking up locally. Should have just done that and saved yourself a week or so of waiting on shipping.

At least the local store worked with you so you didn't have to wait even longer.

There is no doubt that HF doesn't do a good job of shipping stuff but my experience in dealing with FedEx is that they are the absolute worst in handling packages, I'm talking 50-60 parcels a week more than 60℅ are really damaged and they are blameless, fragile means throw as far as you can!

I've bought some tools from HF mail order and they come nicely packaged. For larger stuff, I'd pick it up in person. Chances are when they re-ship it will be damaged also.

They don't double box anything I guess.

Express parcel bulky weighing 130 lbs, I would not have great expectations for arriving damage free.

Glad HF stepped up.
