I received several HF gift cards for Xmas and would like to spend them asap.

Can you use the 20% coupon on top of another coupon?

For ex: I need an engine hoist. I have a coupon that would allow me to get the foldable 1 ton model for $99. Can I also use the 20% coupon and get it for $80?

No, they won't let you combine coupons like that. You can, however, use the 20 percent off coupon on sale items that don't require another coupon.

A gift card isn't a coupon, it's a form of payment. I can't see any reason you couldn't pay with the gift card.

I was just looking at the coupons today. Using a 20% off coupon with a coupon that discounts the item is a no go. It says right on the 20% coupon that it cannot be used with other coupons. However, using the gift card with the 20% coupon is legit as the gift card is real funds. By the way, that engine hoist is very practical, I have lifted engines, wood burners, coal stoves, and even pulled shrubs with it. nIce piece for the loot.

I noticed that they have started something new. When they send out their flyers in the mail that last for 3 weeks or so they have some of the items in the flyer that you have to use a coupon to get them at a reduced price. They will not let you use a 20% coupon on top of the flyer coupon. At least that is how my local store is doing it. Another thing to watch out for is a lot of the tags in the store say "as advertised" and they are just the regular price and not really on sale. The items that are really on sale have the sale price and the regular price on the tags.

I did read the coupon, but I've also read posts on here where people said they used the item coupon and the 20% coupon combined. I wanted some clarification and got it, the answer seems to be "no, but they might if you ask nicely."

Thanks to everyone that replied.

The sales lady explained to me that you can only use on barcode coupon per item. If the coupon of a discounted price has a barcode, you can not use the barcode 20% off coupon. If the item is in the newspaper ads and does not have a barcode then you can use the 20% off coupon with the bar code.
1 barcode per item= good to go
2 barcodes per item= better be a sweet talker or no go
This only applies per item, not per transaction.
Hope that helps to explain it.

i've got a question on the "inside track" membership that they have going on. I've heard from one guy on here that he was given 20% off for buying the membership in mid purchase. He was buying a compressor ($800), with a 20% off coupon. the register girl asked if he wanted an extra 20% off by buying the $20-30 membership.

is the "extra 20% off" standard when buying a membership?? I'm looking to get the same compressor this guy did and an engine hoist....

Wow..That'd be a good deal. Basically 40% off.

I dont think the 20% off is standard. But, if I were going to buy a bunch of stuff and didn't have any coupons - I would say - I'll get the membership, if you give me 20% off my order.

They'll probably do it.

I plan on buying a few things for the upcoming parking lot sale. May try that negotiating.. If in the end it just pays for the membership - that's ok too. Free coupons at least.

When's the parking lot sale?? I think I remember seeing something about it coming up soon last weekend when I ran in for a "sonofabitch this would be done already if I had X tool right now" moment.

I'm going to run in and ask about it next time I'm in the area.

At the HF by me, a nice young cashier was passed by for a promotion. He's hacked off at HF and will let anything go.

I always get in his lane.

Locally, the register requires that they scan your 20% item and coupon first, then any flyer coupon items. If they try to do it in reverse, the register won't take the 20% coupon. The clerk has no option or override - it's in the programming. If they mess up, then you get to do two separate transactions or they have to void the whole thing and start again.

The last two times I went to HF I didn't have my 20% coupon and said something to the cashier that I forgot it, and both times the cashier pulled one out of their pocket and scanned it for me.

I dont know if this is just at my store, but I am pretty happy.

Every car mag and DIY mag has a 20% coupon it in. I carry one in my pocket all the time. Sorta like I used to...nevermind.

They do that sometimes for me too. They usually have a copy to scan if you have a really crappy printer that won't print the bar code properly. Usually if you mention you forgot the coupon they might just use theirs because if they don't, chances are you'll just show up with the coupon later with the added bonus of an attitude or loose the sale all together. Really depends if the cashier feels like being cool that day.
