Ups the game from HF, but I think better options are out or out soon. The COB stuff has a lot of output for the price, looking the other day at Ace at the big Larry.

Anything to recommend these lights other than the fact that they are masquerading behind a brand name ripped off from a reputable German company?

The slim LED light has been wonderful for me so far. I plan to go get a second one and pick up an extra battery or two to keep on hand so there is no downtime when the battery dies.

The magnet is plenty strong, and it is small enough to fit in tight places which really helps when working in tight spaces under some cars.

I bought the slim LED light last week, I love it. Went back and picked up one for my dad for Xmas too and I might even get one more for myself before the $19.99 sale is over

I got both last week the LED Trouble light is very nice and as already stated has a great magnet! I really like this light!

The tactical light is pretty decent for the $$$.

I got the slim light, its pretty bright for its size. I like it so far, although the power button seems to be working intermittently last couple days.

Something doesn't add up. 845 lumens, 3.5hr run times, 1800mAh battery. One of those thing has got to be off.

Also, how can you call something an underhood light w/out big hood hooks? Most hoods I see are aluminum.

Is that coupon for the cordless trouble light for Inside Track Club only or can anyone use it? I was looking at the Astro and just couldn't justify spending the money.

I spaced out, on seeing the under hood light, thanks to the haters for pointing it out. :)

It looks similar to the product they had before which I had thought was extremely well-built and functional, but the blue light from the old-school LEDs, was awful.

Someone is getting me one for Christmas LOL

I think the only complaint I could offer, and this is a somewhat weak one, is that the battery is not removable (so as to have a backup always on the charger). I'm sure on some level though you can still have it plugged in and charging while being used too.

I'm going to try the slim trouble light. I have a craftsman rechargeable one I got for Christmas 2 yrs. ago and loved it so much I bought one for my buddy last year.

unfortunately, the batteries are about shot and it gets dim after about 60 seconds so it's useless to me now :(

hopefully the HF one has better batteries. never liked the switch on the craftsman, one click for on, another for both ends on, a 3rd for just the top on, finally a 4th click for off.

4 clicks to turn off is just too much work for me. life's too short.

edit: on second thought, I guess I didn't love it as much as I thought I did...

The slim cordless light is pretty much my favorite light right now. It's great. Very hard to beat for 20$ especially. It even comes with a removable 18650 cell so you can swap if you've got more charged and it's dead. I also tested the battery included with mine and it's capacity is actually better than listed at ~2500 mAh. The light only lists 2200mAh capacity.

I've got the new Braun underhood as well and it is a bit improved over the old Luminaire branded HF underhood. I'm still collecting specimens for a big underhood light shootout. Just need to gather up funds for the M12. I think the Braun is going to be very hard to beat for 30$. It's pretty decent and man is it cheap. I can tell the Astro 150SL is way brighter and nicer, but it's also 4x more expensive.

Maybe I'll swing by today and see if they have any of those tactical lights. I must have missed them on my most recent sweep.

Personally, I'd still say to get the Neiko underhood light over the HF.. brigheter, more mounting options with its own spring loaded bar - but really for $29 I don't see what u have to lose with the HF..

I got the slim work light on sale, 20 bucks so far I'm digging it. The battery is replaceable and upgradeable, a big plus in my book.

The slim light seems very good to me and it folds. There is a grim warning about leaving it on charge for more than 4 hours, so it could be a problem to leave it on charge overnight. Can you experts comment?

I left mine charging overnight with no problems.. I'll most likely just charge the battery on my charger I have for my other flashlight batteries.
The battery in the HF slim light is called an 18650.
You can buy higher ma batteries from Vape shops and online of course.

18650 chargers are dirt cheap chips, one in every powerbank type device, very like in these lights as well.

I went and bought the tactical flashlight and the headlight today. Got to use the headlight while I was shadowing this red dot in one of the Apache Pelican-esque cases (I love these cases by the way I keep buying more of them). The light was great but it does get pretty hot. On a hard hat it'd probably be no issue but on your forehead it gets a little uncomfortable after a half hour or so.

I'm amazed you can get these cases for 9$ and the next size up for 20$. It seems like an incredible bargain.

Damn good looking case, at 9 dollars I might pick a few up. Foam included?

How do you like the StrikeFire, and why isn't it on your AR? ;)

Yep, comes with three layers of 1.5mm cube pre cut foam that you can either pick out or cut out. There's also a thin layer on the very bottom and the egg shell shape in the lid. One big tip I can give people is lay out your three layers, get them all cut the way you want, then get a can of 3M Super 77 adhesive and glue the 3 layers together, otherwise they'll pull out with the item if you make it a nice tight fit. Also save your "cutoffs" and try to cut out as large of contiguous pieces as you can because they're handy for patching mistakes or making changes, and for the larger Apache cases, there's just one thick layer of foam but you can use the thinner layer cut offs to make inserts for different depths.

So far, I've done my video setup:

As for the StrikeFire, I don't have an AR so that's why. However, I was able to mount it and test it out a bit. The whole body and mount and just about everything on it is metal and feels really solid. The buttons are kinda janky to press because there's a weather sealed membrane over top normal click buttons and you have to press a ways in and kind of feel for the internal button to press.

With this thing I'd never miss my focus again! ;)

Some of my video gear uses NATO rails strangely enough so it fit right on top of my camera cage. It's a Christmas gift, a sort of a surprise. We're going to play it up like it's just a HF case that they can use for whatever, but when they open it, Tada!

I ordered one of the Braun slim lights after seeing a video of it on yt that someone here posted near the end of last month. Really liking it so far. The magnet is strong and it puts out plenty of light for working on a car. I plan to order some extra batteries to keep charged up so I can swap them out on longer jobs if needed. I'll probably get some more of them as well before the $19.99 coupon expires.

A link to the coupon for it courtesy of HFQPDB: http://www.hfqpdb.com/coupons/2327_...BAR_FOLDING_LED_WORKLIGHT_1513095730.6832.png

I don't see it as a big deal at all. I tested it and it is actually a protected battery (not just pretending to be one), it has overcharge, overdischarge and over current limiting. That video felt pretty alarmist to me. There are 18650 batteries all around you in tons of products and not all of them are primo LG cells. As far as the capacity goes the one that came in my light tested out to 2500mAh capacity which is already pretty high. Most of the cells that are going to claim to be higher than that do not meet their listed capacity and you're just wasting money on them. If you see someone selling like a 3500mAh or 4000mAh 18650 cell for 15$, don't bother. You're much better off just getting another battery for it (or actually just buying another light because it comes with the battery for 20$ and that's nuts). Then when it dies switch lights or switch batteries.

My personal opinion is that whether it's the 31SL or the HF Slim LED, either one is worth getting to get rid of that darn dial on the 40SL and the finicky pivoting magnetic base. I think the design where the weight of the light is below the pivot is much better. On the 40SL the whole light is hanging off that ball joint.

I actually started recording a video on all the new HF lights earlier but the battery that I thought was full on the charger was actually a dead battery that was put on the charger without it ever being plugged in... So I got about 5 minutes of video shot before it quit. Will try again tomorrow night.

I picked up one of the Braun lights today. I was a little disappointed that it didn't coming with an adapter for 110V charging. It only has the USB charger. It looks pretty nice. I was thinking about the Astro but just couldn't justify the money. $20 vs $47 made it an easy choice.

If SEMA was any indication, I'm more looking forward to Astro's new lights than how well HF can or can't copy their 2-3 year old lights.
