Mods, please move if incorrect area, but I finally got my check!

For those who thought this whole class action business was a scam, it's not and the check cleared! $689 big ones!!

I have a HF just down the road from my house and I have spent quite a bit there over the past 6+ years so I thought it was worth submitting.

Generally, I am careful and choose HF when I feel the quality is good enough for my needs. I also go in as a hobbyist knowing that my living doesn’t depend on a chinesium wrench.

It really was a surprise  as I expected another ambulance chasing law firm would drag this on forever and no one would see a penny except the firm.

I took the cash option and met a combination of Option A & B as I had receipts for the last year of the period and and my electronic credit card statements for the whole period. I was into it $22 for copies and signature-required postage.

Did anyone else submit?

• Option A. Customers who have itemized Harbor Freight receipts reflecting one or more purchases between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 with a “you saved” amount reflected on their receipts can submit copies of those receipts and elect to receive either 20% in cash, or 30% in a Harbor Freight gift card, of the total “you saved” amount listed on their receipts, excluding any amounts reflecting free items or items that were later returned.
• Option B. Customers who have credit or debit card statements reflecting one or more purchases at Harbor Freight between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 can submit copies of those statements and elect to receive either 10% in cash, or 12% in a Harbor Freight gift card, of the total Harbor Freight purchases on their credit or debit card statement(s), excluding any amounts reflecting items that were later returned.

I never thought it was a scam, but I thought the payouts to be minimal, so good for you!

I didn't participate mostly because I was too busy/lazy to go back and sort through receipts that are buried with all my business stuff.

"Spokane" beats harbor freight!

enjoy!

Dang. How many free flashlights and fly swatters did you pick up on the way to that total? LOL

Haven't gotten mine yet, I think they started on the east coast and are slowly mailing out as they move towards the west coast?

Nothing from them yet for me, I itemized my receipts making .pdf's and even did a spreadsheet for them. I checked my emails to see if I ever had any contact after submittal and haven't found anything. I do have my initial email with my customer number, and I get sales emails from them all the time.

I'm debating sending a certified mail return receipt requested to the attorneys of record, asking for a status report on my claim, since so-many just submitting Visa/MasterCard receipts are already cashing checks.

I tried using the link to-which the receipts were to be sent, but that isn't active any-more.

It sounds like the customers who did the least-documentation methods are getting more back than they expected. I wonder what's going to be the case, for people like me who did the copies of their HFT receipts? More-than you expected?

Free money, supposedly, for a bit of time, and for being obsessive/compulsive, saving years of receipts. I just wonder, "when is it gonna 'rain?'"

I'm tempted to send a letter as well to get a status. I submitted receipts totaling about $80 and I have not received a gift card yet. My wife submitted a claim and requested the $10 gift card. About two weeks ago, she received a gift card for $160. I'm still waiting for the gift card covering my $80 claim. Then the question is, should I be expecting a gift card for $80, or something more.

Still waiting for mine. I submitted receipts and CC statements. The people who submitted undocumented claims made out like bandits. Many of those people never spent a nickle in Harbor Freight, they hang out on class action websites and submit claims for anything that doesn't require proof of purchase. I see the $160 gift cards showing up on ebay and craigslist already. One guy is selling 6 of them. You would think lawyers would have better control over these things like issuing checks only, so the recipient can't submit a bunch of fake names, still not foolproof though. I am a little annoyed that the undocumented $10 claims were raised 1500% and my documented claim only 100% for receipts and much less for CC statements. It really was a pain in the **** to dig out all that documentation, scan it and transmit it.

Did you send in receipts? If so, it doesn't make sense since they are handing out $160 to anybody who submitted an undocumented claim. I can't believe they are screwing the people who actually submitted proof of purchase.

This is not free money, it is in the price of everything they sell/sold to you.

Everyone pays - the people buying the Chinese trinkets at 5000% mark up.

When I submitted, I got nothing acknowledging my submission. Still nothing here ( and I'm on the east coast)
I was originally expecting about $200. Just hoping for enough for the new 44" bottom. Going to keep the old top and sides. Plans are to use old bottom and convert it to a movable work bench.

BTW, wife always teases me about being a hoarder for saving receipts all the time. I'll get the last laugh finally!

Nothing here either. Did option B with bank statements since I don't keep receipts on hand.

I'm still hoping something comes about, but never know.

HF are no saints and and sell tons of defective ****. But that is not the point. Can one of you say that that you were decieved by all their "sale" and "clearance" nonsense? To get a big payoff you bought a ton of stuff from HF. Anyone who bought that much stuff and thinks they were cheated should not be allowed to go shopping without a responsible adult. Companies take a huge beating from BS law suits and the cost is passed along to all of us. You took it because it was offered and I probably would have, too. It is hard to pass up free money but it never should have happened. Just my two cents.

In my case, that certainly isn't the reason I shopped at HFT. I'm not-sure when the class-action started and I never expected to be a member of a suit. I bought tools and supplies here because instead of spending two or three-times as-much for a specific tool I could get something adequate for the job at-hand, and save considerable money. Most of my power tools are American-made stuff, but when I tried to find an SDS-MAX hammer drill demo hammer, HFT had the best deal for what is probably going to be a limited-use tool for me. If I'm gonna pay half the price of a HFT tool to rent a Home Depot tool to do thje job, well, for me that's an easy rationalization of what I'm going to do: buy the tool that pays for itself the second-time I use it, which it has.

I'm just a homeowner who likes to work around the house and garage, and with three single-family residential properties to maintain, I can get my money's worth out of a tool, whatever its origin.

Big business uses statisticians and accountants to determine things like benefit/cost analyses for production, and sometimes the results aren't something the company would like made public knowledge. An example of that would be the probability of mortality from a less-expensive method of production being used, and the tort payoff versus economy of production. Think of the Ford Pinto rear impacts. Think of amputations of woodworkers because Sawstop wants big money to license the technology to prevent them.

Proven B.S. lawsuits are the AUDI 'unintended acceleration' lawsuits, resulting from pressing the gas pedal, not the brake pedal in an emergency, or an accessory floor mat bunching-up and interfering with the brake pedal travel. The manufacturer has-to spend much money to disprove the allegations and to protect the corporation, and ultimately, that means convincing a jury on multiple occasions.

Nothing is 'FREE' someone always pays.

Anyone thinking they got a payout, you have PAYED the 5000% markup on items that costed pennies.

Right on the money! There is always a certain crowd wanting something for nothing thinking only of themselves..... ( clueless that nothing is free) I did well with my auto parts store and machine shop but the best day of my life was selling and getting out. You deal with many nice people, but then you deal with enough "dingle berries" like some of the above.... ( always wanting "free", cheap, first in line, never there fault, warranty parts that are good because of miss dinogistics etc etc) glad to be done with the stupid selfish customers......

24. How much in attorney’s fees will be paid to Class Counsel?

The Court approved payment of attorney’s fees and reimbursement of their expenses of $10,000,000. Attorney’s fees and expenses will be paid by Harbor Freight and will not reduce payments to Class members. The Court also approved Class Counsel’s request for incentive compensation of $10,000 for the Class Representative, to be paid by Harbor Freight.

No wonder they won't accept coupons for tool boxes...… :shocking:

Ten million here, ten million there, pretty soon we're talking real money. :headscrat

Why wouldn't Harbor Freight's insurer, pay all of these costs?

That's how it would be done, with any other business, that is insured and there is no reason to believe, they are not.

FWIW :)
