Harbor Freight Shipping on a 56" cabinet

I have never ordered from Harbor Freight and I am seriously considering buying a 56" or 72" cabinet. My concern is the shipping.

I did a search and found a couple of threads about the crate and packaging but I thought I'd ask again anyway.

From the groups experience, what is their success rate with the box showing up undamaged? I am very concerned about this thing showing up dented and having to deal with returning it. Are you allowed to unpack it and inspect it for damage before the truck leaves or is it just a dump-and-run?

Secondly, has anyone ever had one delivered on a Saturday or Sunday? I really don't want to burn a vacation day just to take delivery of the box.

The 56" are on sale, online, for $799....anyone seen it cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

I wanna say $699. I have the 56" and love it. Personally for the price, id get the 56" top and bottom. Have you called every available story in your area for stock? I drove 2-2.5 hours round trip to get my top.

Jim, I did. I have two stores within reasonable driving distance (within 3 hours). Neither have one in stock and they don't know when they will get one in.

Most shipping agreements require you to inspect any delivery before accepting it. Any damage found at that time is documented, and you can then refuse to accept the item due to the damage, or accept it as is.

The damage is then handled between the retailer and the shipping company, if you refuse delivery.

If you accept the item and then find damage, you must then deal with the shipper directly. This of course can either be very difficult or easy. It all depends on the shipping and sales agreements.

But yes, you have the box unloaded, unpack it, and then inspect it thoroughly. If there is anything you do not like or think is not up to par, refuse delivery of it.

Remember, this is a business decision. You paid money for safe and professional shipping. You should receive that service. If you do not get what you paid for, refuse the item.

I am sure others can chime in with a more detailed process regarding various shippers.

Yes, make sure to inspect the package before signing for it and refuse delivery if the damage isn't acceptable. If there are some dings on the sides, you may want to just note the damage and sign for it and keep it, see if you can get some money back from HF.

Also be aware of the lift gate fee, it varies depending on who the carrier is but can be from $50-150 extra upon delivery.

If they could guarantee the delivery time within 1-2 hours on a liftgate truck and I knew I could inspect it before they left, I would hit the order button right now.

here is a coupon for the 56" box getting it down to $699.
If you can pick up in store and save delivery charges even better.

Just a word of caution. I have the 56" and 44". They are awesome. If you think you will ever need additional room get the 72" at the start. This is especially important because its priced low right now. It also disappears from time to time, and is mail order only. If its getting delivered to your door get the biggest you can fit and afford from the start. The last thing you want is a tool box collection like I have.

There's a HF in Cumberland, Maryland. Depending on where you live in MD, probably worth the drive. No shipping damage hassles and other shipping ****.

I bought 2 - 44" from my local HF and the crates are not very sturdy at all. I would be concerned with a callous shipper.

I got my 72 to my door in Kansas for about 90 bucks total. It's not an extra charge for lift gate, just one shipping charge for the whole thing. It was crated fine but if the shipping box is damaged at all beware. Mine came on a Conway truck and looked perfect. They called me the day before to make arrangements for drop off and he just called me when he was a half hour from the house. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. I say go for it, and just get the 72 if you have room.

I'm not sure if this is the lift gate charge or not but, from their site.

Overweight Item subject to $89.95 additional Freight Charge

It would greatly bite the big one if this charge was in addition to the lift gate fee.

If you're dead set on buying one, I think I'd be calling around and trying to find a store that has one in stock and make the road trip. How much more driving can you do for that $90 charge or was that being taken into account ?

Spot on. Especially for $399. I drove about 2.5 hours round trip t9 get it. Only thing I don't like is there's no way to attach it to the bottom. So making a perfect alignment is somewhat difficult. Something else to note, the lid is only about 1.5" deep. But its nice you don't have to have the kid up to unlock a bank. The banks unlock sepaeratly. I love mine. The match top to.bottom is perfect.

i havent found any deals used on a snappy or matco top for my 57" bottom. dont really want a red and black setup, but to get a black top from excel or international or homak im looking at 700. for the money i think i can deal with the red. :)

somewhere i read they use a thinner gauge metal on the top box.

For the HF top box? If so it could only be by one thickness difference. (Ie if the bottom is 18 the top is 16, or however that works.)

It is a solid weight to size ratio. I promise that. Lol
