My local Harbor Freight is touting a "Spring Black Friday Sale" for next weekend. Not sure if this is nationwide, not sure if "Black Friday" is anyway related to the IRS Tax Deadline the following Monday, but...Ah-ah-ah the U.S. General roller cabinet (26 X 22 Single Bank) that I've been lusting for is dropping from $299 to $249. Like I really need to spend more money on tool-related stuff but that's a big price drop.

I guess I'm totally clueless about Harbor Freight with their price points and coupons. I've also noticed that my local Harbor Freight wants everyone to think that they're going out-of-business, e.g., "GIANT LIQUIDATION SALE".

So is it safe to say that I can find a coupon for that cabinet just about anytime, whether I buy it today, next week, or 3 months from now? Thanks.

The coupons come and go, so you can't always find the same deal at all times. But for example, that particular coupon is good for another month.

Get the hfqpdb app (make sure its the correct one). It has all the know coupons and if you go in a store and scan the bar code, it will tell you if there's a coupon available for it.

Yes, clearance and other types of sales are a rarity, they only happen on even numbered days, and also odd numbered days.

HF has been having some kind of "Tool Disposal" or "Giant Liquidation Sale" for 20 years straight.

Sears tried to play the same game but misunderstood and actually closed hundreds (thousands?) of stores...

LOL

Priceless! Contender for best post this year.

I thought OPer hated HF and how mismanaged it was and was never going back?

You didn't read all of that thread. A guy on the board (FordKid) actually works at HF and apologized for how badly understaffed the stores have been lately. I posted back that I'd give HF another try.

My local HF still has staffing issues--there's usually only one person on the register. For me, HF is a no-go zone on weekends. During weekday mornings, not so bad.

Exactly. Just like the furniture stores that are perennially "going out of business" it's disingenuous marketing horse ****. But people fall for it so retailers will keep doing it.

I understand that everybody loves a sale and I do too. But I also prefer 'everyday low prices' so when I want something I can just go get it.

If they had a big sale once or twice a year that would be reasonable, instead they have 'giant liquidation' sales every weekend and 'sidewalk' sales once a month but the prices are pretty much the same as the coupons.

This simply creates a situation where only a fool would pay normal price. This is why it takes so long to check out. Even if they were properly staffed it takes 5 minutes to enter all the different coupon codes at the register and sometimes separate the items into multiple transactions to make sure the 20% goes to the item where it does the most good.

It's an absolutely rediculous and moronic game but it's making them billions so I doubt it's going to stop anytime soon.

As Ron Johnson learned; It's a game that people just cannot help but play.

No, just wanted a platform and audience for a rant. The cheap in HF keeps their customer base coming back, they can't help themselves, despite all the incentives to go somewhere better, but more expensive. Same behavior as Wal-mart, and chinese goods on ebay, off brand canned food at western family grocery stores, and the old checker auto stores. Been that way for years. It's a common human characteristic.

Yeah I mean I admit I didn't follow that thread all the way to the end, but from what I remember it was quite dramatic, and had statements like "I speak with my money and HF won't be seeing a dime of it!" . . . until there's a great deal on a bright colored tool cart I like.

I'm sure we all grumble sometimes about customer service at a certain store and then end up going back, but that's usually for a couple minutes to the wife at dinner, not declaring it to the whole world on the tallest soapbox I can find.

It's a crazy game, but:

  • The gimmicks/coupons bring people in
  • People leave happy if they feel they got a good deal, because they got something at less than full price (supposedly)
  • There are people who don't know about or don't mess with the coupons. HF doesn't want to miss out on these "full price" sales either

I don't see it stopping anytime soon. It's too bad, I'd like it if everything was always their best price, and nothing was ever on sale.

So even though you didn’t read the entire thread, you feel justified in making moral judgments based on that thread. We’re lucky you’re around to police the board. As I stated earlier, the thread ended with FordKid (someone who actually works at Harbor Freight) explaining how HF management screwed up their staffing metrics. He also was mature enough to apologize on behalf of his company. I replied that I’d give HF another try because of his post.

The thread was actually removed because of personal attacks. You know, like the one you’re making now. Thanks.

The last time I took my kid to the magic kingdom 10 dollars wasn't worth a dollar and they didn't even have beer. Maybe we're talking 2 different Magic Kingdoms
