Yesterday I found an Ikea dinner table in the free section of Craig's List. It was close so I went and grabbed it. Pretty messed up on top but after taking the legs off I found the underside to be in decent shape. So I cut to size, sanded it and put on a few coats of Verathane. Turned out pretty good I think. Check it out, looks nice for free imho.

HF boxes make me go hmmmm....simply bc I know several very intelligent and successful people, who could easily afford the ridiculously high end (well beyond SO) tools, use them. If I wanted another "toolbox" I might have to consider them. Im rather stuck on mobile Vidmar cabinets myself though.

On another note, I just received my US made Cman top box that I bought new in 2001, back from my brother's farm. Ten years of hard use, and it still looks brand new with zero issues. Not bad for a store return that I paid $25 for.

That's exactly what I've been looking for to put on one of my boxes and for a countertop for a drawer cabinet I built. What kills me is my wife and I gave two maple, butcher block type tables to Goodwill a couple of years ago. I could use them both now.:(

Just ordered the extra shelves for the side cabinet - my local store told me the rough texture box has been discontinued and they are switching to gloss red

Ugggh. I don't have the $$ for all of the pieces yet.

After reading all the posts about HF tools boxes, I decided to go take a look at them. The HF store is only 5 minutes away. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed. They seem sturdy and well made. The drawers slide easily and seem well designed. They had both red and black boxes there as well as the service cart. I have no plans to throw out my 20+ year old craftsman boxes, but if I need a new box in the future, I'll consider these.

See, the finish thing is what messed me up. I went to the one nearby, they had like 14 of the 44" rolling bases in the "wrinkled" finish and no top boxes. Then they told me the new top boxes were all going to be a gloss finish....so, i left, and researched, and now i'm all messed up looking at more expensive options because then I thought I need the 56" model...blah bah blah....If it weren't for the finish issue I'd have the 44" combo already set up!

Of course now I'm looking at what I could have for the other brand price and I see side lockers and cabinets and rolling carts....Its madness!!!

What is the part support for these boxes? If I damge a drawer or slide, am I just SOL? I know Craftsamn sells individual parts from my Waterloo-manufactured box if something ever happened.

You can order parts for the 42" roll cabinets - but none are available for the 56" roll cabinet - according to the Owners Manuals / Operating Instructions.

How long do you think support will last? I like these boxes, but everything about them seems to be a bit of a mystery. If I damage a part 10 years down the road, will there be parts available for me to fix it?

Chances are slim I would break a part, and for the price I guess you can assume some risk. It just becomes a little less of a bargain...

Bought 3 of these 13 drawer boxes yesterday with a $350ea. coupon. They do indeed come with a parts list in the bottom right drawer. I figure if it lasts 10 years that is $35 a year, worst case you throw it out, best case you look online and find whatever piece you need because there are so many boxes out there.

I would have loved to go with Craftsman but my$1100 worth of boxes from HF would have cost me almost 3x that at Sears and I know some of the top boxes I have bought there recently aren't as good as my original box I bought over 10 years ago.

I have a few $360 coupons I might be using to buy a few more in the future, plan on building them into a new work bench like several on here have done. One thing I was really surprised on was the lock mechanism, I was expecting the old cheap feeling turn latch that every cheap box has, these are far superior in the feel and seem a lot sturdier than I expected.

does anyone have the part number for the top. I tried looking it up from the receipt posted above and not able to find it.

A link to the top would be great if possible

Thanks

Has anyone just bolted two boxes together , swapped out the casters for swivel ones and essentially made one 90" (or so) box? I have seen the work benches that people have made on here..l wasn't sure if anyone went this route. Thanks !
