If HF is running at a 50% profit margin, they are the most successful retailer in history. When I worked retail, our company profit margin was about 4% and that was considered good. Lots of our items were marked up 50 to 100% but mark up and profit are not the same thing.

Coach

im not talking about profit margin, just markup (sorry i mispoke). I would be willing to bet their profit margin is ALOT higher than 4%. They advertise a new store opens EVERY 3 DAYS. Do you know any other retailers that expands that quickly? i sure dont and i know you cant open a new store every 3 days on 4% profit.

There's a class action lawsuit against Kohls, Sears, Penny's and K-mart (possibly) for the same thing. It was on the national news several months ago. Good for the f+#&ers!

HD, Menards, Lowes, all run on 50%+ markups if not more, don't they? I worked for a large nation-wide retailer with a big Internet/phone/mail order business when I was in high school and college, and for some reason the archaic system still had all the sourcing costs shown when we pulled up a product. We made a lot more than 50%!

I don't know enough about how HF is run to guesstimate what their profit margin would be.

PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE OF PROPOSED CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT

A COURT ORDERED THIS NOTICE. YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS FROM A PROPOSED CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. YOUR RIGHTS MAY BE AFFECTED BY THIS SETTLEMENT.

YOU MUST RESPOND TO THIS NOTICE BY FILING A CLAIM FORM TO RECEIVE COMPENSATION. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE PART OF THE SETTLEMENT, YOU MUST TAKE THE STEPS DESCRIBED IN THIS NOTICE BY JUNE 7, 2017.

This is a proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit brought in the Common Pleas Court of Lake County, Ohio (the 鼎ourt?, against Harbor Freight Tools USA, Inc. Beck v. Harbor Freight, No. 15CV00598, Lake County, Ohio, Common Pleas. A class action is where one or more persons sue on behalf of others who have similar claims. The members of this group are called the Class.

What this case is about_:

The lawsuit is about Plaintiff痴 claims alleging that Harbor Freight violated the law by advertising merchandise as 登n sale or 田omp at that had not been sold at the stated regular or 田omp at price for 28 of the preceding 90 days. Harbor Freight disputes Plaintiff痴 allegations and believes that it complied with all applicable laws at all times.

Plaintiff and Harbor Freight have concluded that settlement is in their best interests because of the uncertainty, expenses, risks, and delays of litigation. The parties have reached a proposed settlement that will refund a percentage of certain purchases to eligible Class Members, if the Court approves the settlement, but only if a Claim Form is timely filed. The Court has preliminarily approved the settlement as fair, reasonable and adequate. On July 7, 2017, at 1:15 p.m., at the Lake County Courthouse, 47 North Park Place, Painesville, Ohio, 44077, the Court will hold a Settlement Approval Hearing to decide whether to issue final approval of the settlement.

The Court has certified a class for settlement purposes. Members of the class are as follows:

All Harbor Freight customers in the United States who since April 8, 2011 and up to December 15, 2016 (the 鼎lass Period? purchased any product from Defendant which was advertised with a higher reference price (e.g., 途eg. $***, 登nly $***, or 田omp. at $***? adjacent to a lower current offering price, but which was not sold by Defendant at the higher reference price for at least 28 of the last 90 days prior to purchase, excluding Defendant痴 employees, representatives, court officials in this case, and any customer already party to a suit against Defendant challenging advertised pricing.

Harbor Freight痴 records indicate you may be a Class Member if you received this notice.

THE PROPOSED SETTLEMENT

If you are a Class Member and the settlement is approved, and you timely file a Claim Form, you may be entitled to a payment as follows:

OPTION A. Customers who have itemized Harbor Freight receipts reflecting one or more purchases between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 with a 土ou saved amount reflected on their receipts can submit copies of those receipts and *elect to receive either 20% in cash, or 30% in a Harbor Freight gift card, *of the total 土ou saved amount listed on their receipts, excluding any amounts reflecting free items or items that were later returned.

Anybody who feels cheated over HF's sales tactics must be broke from being so gullible. Every store does this to an extent and while annoying its very obvious (to most people). Kohl's is one of the worst in this regard and I hate that store.

I got the email today. The way I read it, you're not getting 30% of the total spent. You'd be getting 30% of the "you saved" amount that it says on the receipt. No one is getting hundreds back unless they have boatloads of receipts and the lawsuit accepts them all.

Sorry if this was already brought up. I didn't feel like reading every post.

I never even looked at the "you saved" on the receipts until I got the email. I bought one of their folding trailers a few years back and it said "you saved $160.00". I thought that was pretty funny because theres no way anyone would pay over $400 for one of those bolt together junkers

I just got done submitting my claim. I downloaded 5 years of bank statements and added up all my HF transactions. I spent over $2700 in 5 years so I should be getting back over $300 on a gift card.
According to the settlement site, the final ruling is in July unless no one appeals.

My aren't you a smug one. :lol_hitti

This **** perpetuates itself because people who have not been harmed in the slightest all come forward with their hands open. Everyone else loses when places raise their prices to pay for these lawsuits.

So if I'm blunt and smug for calling it as I see it, so be it.

I believe anyone who encourages and supports frivolous lawsuits by bottom-feeding sleazeball attorneys by participating in this class action kangaroo court settlement really does deserve the stink of a $10 Harbor Freight gift card in their wallet.

YMMV.

I'm thinking it's time to pass on My secret method of shopping at Harbor Freight.
1 Print out two copies of the ads/coupons for things you may be interested in.
2 Other that the sale price, blank out any writing on Your copy; and place the second
copy in a sealed envelope for the checkout clerk.
3 While in the store; don't read any signs other than sale prices,; just look at things
and decide if You want to buy them.
4 If You insist on reading their propaganda, use the Google translator to convert it to
Chinese.
5 Save Your receipt.

There are 6 appeals filed in November and December that need to be resolved before it will be paid out. All of the briefs/responses are due in March, so it will likely be some time before anyone sees any money.

Harbor freight probably loves this lawsuit more than life itself.

Whatever is costing them they're getting tons of advertisement, is it curious go check out to see what the "compare at" hubbub all about finding out that indeed their prices are way lower.

Never mind the additional product purchases the truly greedy, who will March into the store with their $30 gift card.

Maybe they hired an old college buddy to sue them.

And yes I checked to see if I qualify :)

Wow, I've spent at least a $1000 there in the last couple yrs. Is there a way to check to see if I'm getting some cash back?

So... nitpickers unite? I can remember all the times i go to a store, see a “2 for $5” sale, and realize the store knocked off $.01 between two items ... half a penny. Its called pay attention.

All “store sales” are the franchise cutting their losses and selling items for what it cost them to stock it. You save $.80 on two cans of juice, but pay $1.00 more on butter or milk, For example. Until said items are “clearance” and sold as “No Refunds” the company is still turning a profit, they’re not just “killing it.”

The loud colors and savings bubbles harbor freight have don’t mean anything if they are the
Only Show in town... and they are just about the right kind of vague so they are comparing Mandarin Oranges to Clementines...
