The Harbor Freight 44” tool boxes get a lot of love on here because of their bang/buck. I have been eyeing picking up two of them (or a single bigger box) for a bit now, but their prices have creeped up quite a bit over the years and I am wondering at their current price point of about $500 if there might not be some better options now.

So tool box gurus of GJ, what other good bang/buck roll cab options are worth taking a look at?

I have 4 of HF 44" boxes and they good for the money spent. Black Friday they will be $399. $439 coupons are fairly common.

The general cost of living plus tariffs= higher prices. Yesterday I just picked up a side drawer unit that was on order for about 2 weeks. When my presale receipt was scanned, the prices had gone up on them from $199 to $219. I've noticed the 26" and 44" rollers and boxes have seen a couple of price hikes. HF seems to be holding the line on the 56 and 72 stuff for now. Moral of the story? Don't delay, buy sooner rather than later.

I recently purchased a 56 and a 72 and a tool cart. The 44 is a good buy at 399$!

When I got my bonus check in March, I spent 2 months watching neighborhood sales and posting wtb for a truck brand box at as much as $1k. Coming up on a 5 day weekend, I still didn't have a box and I had several friends coming to do projects. Pick a color, rent a van (lower floor height for the unload at home) and get all the tools out of the wife's sewing closet and organized.

I picked up a 26 and a 44 earlier this year, both were on sale and I paid between $700-800 for the pair after taxes. I had done a lot of shopping around, and at that price I think they are one of the best deals around.

I also have a 27" Husky with a top chest. It is clearly lighter weight construction but not a bad tool box for a home shop. I got it on sale a couple years ago and with the top chest it was still quite a bit cheaper than the HF 26"base only.

I would look at the drawer layout, the HF boxes have lots of small drawers, some other brands have fewer but much larger drawers so what you are putting in them is an important consideration.

I was looking pretty seriously at getting another Husky, their 46" because I've been happy with the other. It was significantly cheaper than the 44" (on sale at the time for $349 I think) and the 46" has a nice wood top. I was getting it for my small lathe so that top was a nice feature.
Ultimately I liked the height (couple inches taller) and the drawer layout of the HF 44" box better for that use and it also went on sale so the difference in price was about $100.

I have a 44” HF, a 26” Craftsman, before our Sears closed, and 30” HF mechanics cart. I use the cart to wheel up to where I am working. I park it at the end of the bench when I am not using it.

Watch for coupons and sales. I have had the 44” for two or three years. I like mine.
