I am just a at home mechanic that works on bikes/trucks when needed, so HF boxes are perfect for me. I am just trying to figure out why somebody would buy a 56in toolbox when they can buy 2 44in for the same price and get a 88in tool chest for the same price...

Also looking to get some sockets. I just am looking to get a quality set of sockets. I am hoping to not have to spend snap on prices, but I am willing to if needed. Mainly just getting the metric because that is mostly what I use. Even my ford ranger uses metric (lol)

I'm guessing HF makes their money off volume. Most HF customers are DYI or low level mechanics who don't need the 56in.

HF can get a quantity discount from the factory back in China and can offer the 44in for less.

one thing to consider concerning toolbox size is if you move every few years, moving a 56" box full of tools can take a forklift!

for that reason, two 44" may be better

One thing too consider is drawer size a layout. I do not care for the 44" simply because of drawer size where as the 56" has use able drawer layout for me.

There are not really coupons for the tool boxes, just low advertised prices, my guess.

I have the 44, I looked at the 56 but felt it was just to big. Well I wound up putting a side cabinet drawers setup on the 44 as I ran out of room. Previously the tools all fit in a 26" husky setup. But the husky setup had several deeper drawers and the drawers were slightly more wide. Also I stacked all of the tools in the husky like no other, so much so that some of the drawers were sagging. Laying them all out in the HF box I ran out of room, but I suppose I coulda crammed the drawers full.

The stupid huge drawer on the top I dont like, but I live with it. I find Im afraid to put alot of stuff in there because of the fact it could tip if there was too much weight in it. So its like a catch all for prybars, various tools, etc.

Overall the HF 44 has some good and bad things going for it.

The 56 is made better IMHO.

Plus it has a higher overall weight capacity, better casters, deeper, finger actuated drawer locks.

For home storage you'd probably be better served by 2x44" boxes though.

I bought both. My detents on the 44" are not the greatest and I wish the 56" had a full length top drawer. With that said I think they are great boxes. The 56" is beefier than the 44"....maybe for obvious reasons or maybe because it isn't made in the same place the 44" is?

I commend you for that, it is by far the least cost effective solution unless you want something drastically different.

Yeah, but it will help with my career also. A talking point for interviews and stuff.

Mechanical Engineering. Still in school, I have a part time job designing packing house equipment for citruses, which is all sheet metal, channels, angles, ect.

I think that is a big problem in manufacturing now a days. You have the engineers straight out of college designing products and the people assembling them, who usually are experienced putting them together thinking wtf is this design.

How can I call out welds on a drawing if I have never done a v groove weld myself?

It's the quality mainly. Why do I have a BMW X5 when an Acura MDX does the same job cheaper. It's performance and a desire to have something that won't break and will look good.

I have a 56" box...I am a home D-I-Y'er...I am retired, almost 70 year old, and I love my HF roller...

Oh, by the way, the 56" Roller Cabinet is on sale for $ 699.99 through the middle of January...

One 56" will hold more weight than two 44"...if you put them side by side, with the backs against the wall, you will see how much bigger the 56" is...

Steevo has built the ultimate tool storage/workbench unit, he used four of the HF 44' Rollers , search for the link...

Given what I've said before---I'd rather have one 56" HF Roller, then two 44"ers...

From the HF website: the 44" volume is 6.96 cuft while the 56" volume is 16.35 cuft.

Where did you find the $699 for the 56"? All I can find is it for 799.
