So, I went to HF to look at the 44" top and bottom chests. The manager showed me a top chest that he would sell for $220. It looks like it got bumped in shipping. It is in the back top section near the hinges. It has some chipped paint as shown and a little bow (about 2 inches long). The top seats well when closed.

The picture shows the damage. He said I could get it for $220 out the door. I need some help, friends as I have a major case of **** retentiveness. Is this a deal or do I need to pony up the additional $70 and get one that is more aesthetically pleasing but just as functional?

In other words, if you were buying this HF top chest, would you go for this exact one at this price?

PS_He would not go down anymore than $220. I also don't know why the picture is sideways but the shiny part is bare metal.

I don't now. $70 off isn't a killer deal if you are OCD about the condition of your stuff. I think it would bug you more than $70 worth, from the sounds of it.

Thanks for the fix on the picture. I am like you guys, it seems sort of on the fence.

You'd be better off giving him 70 bucks for you to walk away. If you are like me, it would keep you upwide awake thinking about a damaged box that you only saved 70 bucks on.

How many hours do you have to work to make $70 (after taxes)? If it would take you longer to fix it than it would to make the money, then just buy an undented one.

If you spend more time agonizing over this decision than it would for you to make $70 ... then you have already lost! Just buy an undented one!

$220 is way too much. It's actually kinda hard to see the damage but I wouldn't bite for anything under $150.

My local HF had the top box from a 26" set outside on the sidewalk, dented but not as bad as that. It was marked $100, I offered him $50 with the promise it he would never see it again. He accepted my offer.

I think you should offer him $150, tell him it won't come back and see what he says. $70 off isn't enough.

If you make $70 in 27 mins it means you're making over 300k a year working a normal job...after taxes...which means your income is around 450k a year...WTF are you sweating $70? Seriously get a grip

Actually-I was sitting there last night and wondered how long it would take after that post about 27 minutes for someone to comment and what it would be. 8 minutes-not bad~Funny!

PS-I believe I would be considered "poor white trash" in this part of the world.

FWIW, My HF will not sell a damaged floor model until it's been discontinued. I tried low balling them on the 26 inch box set and the manager said NFW.
I can't see that bent up floor model actually helping sales but that's the deal. :headscrat

Sounds like a Snap-On Epiq is in your future at that salary. You'll be much happier with that, and shoot you can afford it no prob. Maybe even one for the vacation home too.
