I get diamond plate for improving grip on flat or slightly sloped surfaces that will see foot traffic or wheels. Functionally, I don't get the look on vertical surfaces, unless they're going for a "rugged" aesthetic, or maybe it's cheaper than painting and won't show imperfections with lower end metals.

The promotion popped up in my email yesterday. Looks promising but I couldn’t find gauge of metal. Has anyone seen these up close yet? My local stores don’t have them yet.

I too am interested in the gauge of it.

Personally after seeing the newage pro that we have at the fire station I am leaning towards that for my daily use, but i also have some "storage" type items that i have in some lighter gauge gladiator cabinets.

I hate the diamond plate, too and they don't have a unit with only drawers like other systems. I couldn't afford the masterforce or the newage stuff, so I am building my own from steel cabinets out of Habitat donated office desks.

Probably the same as that home depot gladiator stuff

I suppose it could be 'the same.' I bought the Gladiator system several years ago, not all the pieces, and I'm perfectly-content with the (diamond plate) looks, the wear/use, and the value. I was in a Ft. Lauderdale Sears just before Christmas, and for some reason all their Gladiator stuff was on-sale, along with some of the Craftsman storage stuff. I mean, sale, as-in probably 30% of retail! I was going to buy one, but when the cashier rang it up, and I saw the price, I asked her, "how-many more of these do you have?" I cleaned 'em out at that store. The final calculation was ~30% of full-price. I bought 5 wall cabinets, 4 roll around bases, of which 3 fit perfectly-under a 8 ft Craftsman workbench, to-which I added a 1-1/2" 2 ft X 8 ft wood top covered by a 3/16" piece of steel. I already have a couple steel floor cabinets.

Assuming this has some decent gauge metal, it's priced well, and should be a big seller. My Whirlpool Corp./Gladiator wall cabinets are a bit larger than these 27" X 28" at 30" X 30," both are 12" deep. I suspect this HFT storage line will be very-popular. My Whirlpool/Gladiator wheel casters on the floor cabinets look to-be significantly beefier than the HFT ones, from what I can see in the pics. Whirlpool also has all-drawer floor cabinets while the HFT does not.

If you really-don't like the looks you could always bond another piece of metal to the cabinet fronts, the diamond-plate should provide a lot of 'tooth.' That would be cleaner than screws/nuts or pop-rivets. There are enough suppliers out-there, anyone can find something to appease their aesthetics.

If it fits HF recent tiered pricing strategy i'm guessing its going to be close to price of comparable units at other stores.

I saw this in my email this morning. I think they'll be a hit. They should be easy to manufacture. Tolerances don't have to be real tight - low scrap rate.
I have some of the Gladiator stuff in my garage. I like it fine. it feels a bit flimsy, but for a home shop, I feel certain it'll last decades. I got mine a couple years ago at Lowe's on BF special, plus a military vet discount so I paid about 50% of normal retail for 4 wall cabinets and 2 36x72 floor cabinets.

I have a shop full of Gladiator so this is too late for me. I am a fan of the diamond plate and even have matching flooring. With the HF sales these cabinets should be priced well. Certainly something to consider because nice cabinets really upscale a garage shop. And the storage plus organization seals the deal. Bonus is being able to use magnetic labels so tired old brains can find stuff.

Thanks for sharing. That stuff might work for me. Especially the roller cabinet with one drawer and two doors.

I recently picked up the 30" x 72" at HF and am really impressed. The way the panels connect is ingenious and adds a lot to the rigidity of the cabinet. I first saw the HF display over a year ago but they were not available yet. Needing a cabinet I looked at everything available at HD and Lowes and didn't like what I was seeing. I'm glad I waited for this one.

I don’t like the diamond look either. I think they would’ve done a lot better if they just matched the US general cabinets and colors. The capacities of the shelves are also kind of low, 90 pounds is nothing.

i have one that Lowes used to sell. Good for storing all my solvents and chemicals in one metal cabinet. Diamond Plate doesn't bother me. It was on sale about 5 - 7 years ago and serves the purpose. Styles come and go, then return.

Really did a disservice with diamond plate. Aesthetics matter to me even if most on here might not care.
